Nungalinya eNews - May 2016

Media Class film of Mandy Mangurra
Mandy Mangurra is an Assistant Teacher at the College

Dear <<First Name>>
Our first group of Media students have just completed their intensive at the College. During this first intensive the students use professional equipment to film an interview with one of the Indigenous Staff or Board Members which they then edit together as a class. This group's film is of one of our Assistant Teachers, Mandy Mangurra and is called "God is speaking to me", Mandy describes her life growing up in Numbulwar, her story of faith and also her challenge to non-Indigenous people to listen as they relate to Indigenous people. You can see it at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WyE3UIKtnXo

The students have now returned home. Please pray for them as they film back in their communities using an iPod. When they return they will make a film of their own faith journey which will be viewed at the Graduation ceremony.

Prayer Points

If you are short on time:

  • Give thanks for the increased number of young male students coming and pray that they will continue to grow in their faith to be good leaders in their communities.
  • Pray for the Annual General Meeting and Board Meeting as the Directors meet on the 5th May.
  • Give thanks that compliance work has been completed on the hostel, dining room and education block and pray that the certification application which has been submitted would soon be successful.
If you have a bit longer:
  • Pray for CMS staff going on 3 months home assignment - Liz and Terry, and Wayne and Mandy. Pray also the other staff who will be covering for them.
  • Continue to pray for a new Development Officer and for Jude Long as she juggles the additional load until one is appointed.
  • Pray for the new groups of Foundation Studies and Certificate III in Christian Ministry and Theology students starting this month.
Certificate III Class for 2016
We have many new students starting in our Certificate III in Christian Ministry and Theology. Almost all have previously completed the Foundation Studies course and are continuing their learning in theology. The students above have just finished a 2 week intensive exploring an overview of God's Story in the Bible and the life and ministry of Jesus. They will return later in the year for their second intensive.

From the Bible

John 8:12

Jesus said "I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.

New International Version (NIV)

New Male Students

Unlike many colleges, Nungalinya has more female than male students. Therefore it is really encouraging to see more young men coming to study at the College. In our Foundation Studies group we have 9 men out of 30 students. Most in are in the Preliminary class meaning they have a long way to go in developing their literacy in order to continue further study. We also had 7 men in the media class that have just been here. Please pray for these younger men that they will be good role models and encourage more men to come and study in the future.
