Hi friends!

I’m Claire, the External Relations Director for the Campus Environmental Center. Working with the CEC team this semester has been so encouraging. I've especially loved seeing all the varying interests within environmentalism that shine through in our members and the projects they take on.

To keep connecting students with environmentalism, our CEC Connect Series highlights career paths that integrate sustainability and environmental justice principles. We’ll be hosting professionals from different backgrounds, and we hope you’ll join us! Our next Connect event is next Tuesday, Nov. 8th. We will be hosting Meg Mattingly to share how she has chosen to focus on eco-anxiety in her work as a therapist in Austin. This series will also continue next semester. To get more info about our speakers, check out our instagram (@utcec). I can't wait to see you around!

Join us this month!

Community Service Networking Event: Friday, Nov. 11, 9AM to 1PM at Pease Park (1100 Kingsbury St, Austin, TX 78703)

Join us to clean up Pease Park and participate in sustainability projects (like making dog toys with old t-shirts!) while you meet employers who have sustainability roles and/or initiatives.

Participating employers: Affinity Engineering, Colorado River Alliance, John Deere, Save Our Springs, TCEQ, Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center, Urban Roots, YMCA of Austin, and more TBA.

It's course registration season. Before you finalize your classes for next semester, check out the Environmental Justice Collective's recommended courses here!
Our Dell Med Creek Clean-Up was a huge success: we collected 303 lbs of trash in 1 hr!

Sustainability Staff Suggests

As the days get darker, the Office of Sustainability Staff has recommendations to bring some light to your life.
  1. Listen to the podcast We Can Do Hard Things (especially this ep: No More Grind: How to Finally Rest with Tricia Hersey) - Jessi Drummond, CEC Staff Advisor
  2. Ada Limón's The Hurting Kind, Parable of the Sower by Octavia Butler, Abbott Elementary, H.E.R.'s Tiny Desk Concert - Caitlin Griffith, Climate Leaders Program Coordinator
  3. Go to Barton Springs at night: "Definitely experience a full moon swim (every full moon). It’s free after 9:00 pm!" - Jill Parrish, Green Fund Coordinator
  4. Listen to The Daily and Smartless, re-read (or read) Mary Oliver's Evidence, eat at Hopfield's and Cherrywood Coffeehouse - Jim Walker, Director of Sustainability
P.S. Early voting ends today at 7p, and Election Day voting is from 7a-7p. Vote on Campus
