"It is what they make me play at home" The Story of Carine, age 6
“It is what they make me play at home”, this was Carine's answer when she was asked about the odd nature of the games she proposed to her peers.
Carine’s extended family had noticed that Z was indulging in sexual games and initiating them as well. Alarmed by her answer they contacted himaya in search for answers.
Following himaya's social worker's home visit, the entire family came to himaya’s office for a psycho-social evaluation. During the sessions with himaya’s psychologist, Carine has expressed clearly and repeatedly, through drawings and images that her mother and father asked her to perform sexual acts and to watch them during intercourse.
A protection file was filed to the juvenile judge and the judge decided to place Carine in an institution to separate her from her family’s disruptive environment. He appointed her grandmother as her guardian since her parents are not capable of fulfilling her basic needs and he appointed himaya’s team to do the psycho-social follow up on a regular basis in order to help Carine cope with the traumatic experience that she went through.
Sometimes children will not speak. Their cry for help will be manifested through unusual actions or drawings.
