A New Year's Message from Our Director

 Resolutions, Intentions, Commitments????

Every New Year’s Day morning I find myself with my journal, recalling the highs and lows of the previous year and setting some intentions for the New Year.  As is typical of most of us, some of them never come to fruition but last year I did follow through with buying my headstone which is now in place on our family plot in rural Wisconsin and I have finally stuck with a daily meditation practice.  Some suggest that intentions which are things of “the heart” are more likely to succeed than resolutions which are motivated by “should do”.  Does giving thought to your end-of-life values and wishes, creating documents and talking to your family fall off of your list of resolutions, year after year?  Perhaps if you move this into the heart realm; focusing on those who love you and on how to make life easier for them, you will find and make time for this important activity.  You are more likely to succeed if you make a plan.  You might wish to print off this commitment card as a guide. Setting dates works for some people. We offer you the free services of our trained coaches who can guide you through the process.  We know that this heart work is hard, as this video illustrates.
Wishing you a happy and healthy 2018,
Constance Holden, Director

These three part series are being presented by The Conversation Project in Boulder. An interactive program, we will ease into important end-of-life topics. It can be said "it is always too early to talk about these things until it is too late". Over the weeks we will focus on decision making, communicating these decisions and documenting them. Discussions are lively, and this atmosphere fosters normalizing conversations around death. Come and join us for this exploration!

A National “Convening”: Colleagues in Advance Care Planning
This past December, Ellen Goodman and her staff at the Cambridge, MA-based headquarters of The Conversation Project welcomed people from 20 organizations for a “convening”; an opportunity to learn from each other and to share best practices in advance care planning.    The attendees represented hospital systems, health plans, faith communities, community health centers and free-standing Projects, such as ours here in Boulder County.  It was a heady time of show and tell and problem-solving.  In the coming months, we will share program improvements recommendations that we will likely implement.

National Healthcare Decisions Day is April 16th, 2018. The date was purposely chosen to illustrate the point about the two inevitable things in life: death and taxes. This year, The Conversation Project in Boulder and TRU Hospice are sponsoring KATY BUTLER on APRIL 18th...SAVE THE DATE!
