Get involved: upcoming opportunities in March

March is quickly filling up with exciting events and initiatives from across the global community, all working to drive action during the UN Decade of Healthy Ageing! In this newsletter, find out more about how to get involved in:

Launch event: WHO framework for countries to achieve an integrated continuum of long-term care

DATE: 15 March 2022
TIME: 13:00 – 14:00 CET - find my timezone

Approximately two-thirds of people who reach older age are likely to need care from others at some point in time. Access to good-quality long-term care is essential to enable older people to enjoy their basic human rights, fundamental freedoms, and human dignity.

To support countries to develop or strengthen their long-term-care systems and services, WHO has released a new Framework for countries to achieve an integrated continuum of long-term care.

WHO is hosting a webinar to launch the framework. The event will:
  • provide an overview of the global situation of long-term care for older people;
  • share the key objectives and messages of the framework;
  • hear reflections on challenges and solutions from stakeholders involved in long-term care for older people from Member States, UN partners, academics, and civil society; and
  • give an opportunity for engagement and discussion on the key issues for long-term care.

Join a premiere screening of three videos made by older people from Canada, Jordan and Togo for the UN Decade of Healthy Ageing

DATE: 29 March 2022
TIME: 14:00 – 15:45 CET - find my timezone

In 2021, groups of older people from Canada, Jordan and Togo were involved in a project to ensure their voices were prominent from the start of the UN Decade of Healthy Ageing. This project used the participatory video methodology to meaningfully engage with older people and their lived experience, perspectives and expertise to find solutions to problems that matter to them.

Join us at the live premiere screening event to watch the films and to hear reflections from older people and local partners involved in the process. You will gain insights into how older people think, feel and act towards age and ageing; and learn more about the barriers older people face in rural and urban settings.

The event will have live interpretation in Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian and Spanish.
