Rowing BC COVID-19 Update
September 10, 2021
Hello Rowing BC Community Members,

Starting on Monday, September 13, 2021, British Columbians will require Proof of Vaccination to access some events, services and businesses.  Please carefully review the Provincial Government's Vaccination Card requirements by visiting their website.

Although Outdoor Sport is currently not included in the Provincial Proof of Vaccination requirements, Local Sport Organizations (LSO), including rowing clubs, are able to establish their own requirements for members and participants to follow.

Indoor rowing and training does fall under the Provincial Government's Proof of Vaccination requirements in some cases.  Please carefully review these requirements before starting programs next week.  If you have questions about the requirements please feel free to contact Rowing BC for further clarification.  Currently, Indoor Youth Programming for participants 19 years and younger does not require Proof of Vaccination.  Likewise, Indoor Adult Programming that does not exceed 50 people (total) also does not require Proof of Vaccination.  Again, clubs are able to establish their own requirements for members and participants to follow.

All indoor rowing related activities must follow the Rowing Canada Aviron (RCA) regulations for indoor participation, which can be found by clicking here.  These requirements have not changed since October 23, 2020.

On-water regattas in BC do not currently fall under the Provincial Government's Proof of Vaccination requirements.  However, Local Organizing Committees (LOCs) are able to establish their own requirements for athletes, coaches, officials, volunteers and other participants.  Before registering for a regatta, please carefully read the regatta package to understand LOC requirements.

The regatta sanctioning process remains in place to ensure that LOC regatta planning meets Provincial and National safety requirements.  LOCs are also required to create a COVID-19 Regatta Safety Plan that is specific to the regatta and identifies a COVID-19 Safety Officer.  These plans are reviewed by RCA and Rowing BC.  This extra step was added in the Summer of 2021 and will remain in place until it is no longer needed.

For coaches and athletes who access services through the Canadian Sport Institute (CSI), Proof of Vaccination will be required to access CSI facilities starting on Monday, September 13, 2021.  For further details please visit their website.

If you have any questions about the recent changes, or would benefit from additional clarification, please email me at david.calder@rowingbc.ca

I hope you have a great weekend.
