Rowing BC COVID-19 Update
June 18, 2021
Hello Rowing BC Community Members,

Heading into the weekend Rowing BC wanted to provide a quick update with respect to pandemic regulations, and to provide a bit more insight into what can be expected over the coming weeks and months.

JUNE 15, 2021
As of June 15, 2021, Outdoor Sports can now enjoy the following loosening of restrictions:

  • Travel for sport is now permitted within BC;
  • Adult Sport (22 years and older) is restricted to maximum gathering sized of 50 people;
  • Youth Sport (21 years and younger) is not restricted to a gathering size;
  • CSI Pacific Identified athletes (of any age) are not restricted to a gathering size; and
  • Spectators are now allowed, up to 50 people.
For more information about this stage of the Return to Sport Restart 2.0 please check out viaSport's FAQ and staged restart flow chart.

These changes do not significantly impact the rowing community at this point.  With the easing of travel restrictions, those rowers who hold memberships at multiple clubs are now permitted, from a provincial standpoint, to participate at more than one club.  Please check with your local club, however, to find out if their Restart Plan permits for its members to participate at more than one club.

JULY 1, 2021
Rowing BC is anticipating that regattas will be permitted starting in early July, 2021.  Rowing BC Staff are working with RCA Staff to ensure that appropriate pandemic considerations are layered into regatta sanctioning applications and operational plans.  Rowing BC Staff are also currently working with potential Local Organizing Committees (LOCs) on the Lower Mainland, Vancouver Island and in the Interior to explore possible regatta dates.  If the province follows current trends, there is an active LOC in initial planning stages of a regatta on Burnaby Lake on July 24 & 25, 2021.  Likewise, there are LOCs in early stages of planning of events on Vancouver Island and in the Interior, and more details for these events will be published as they become available.

SEPTEMBER 7, 2021

The Provincial Health Officer has set September 7, 2021 as another milestone date of the Province's Restart Plan.  Rowing BC is planning to have an established sanctioning process for regattas that typically happen in September, October, November and December ready for the beginning of August, 2021.

I hope that the weather is as nice in your part of the province as it is where I am, and that you have a great weekend.
