SOLAS Reminder

You should now be aware that the amendments to the SOLAS (Safety of Life at Sea) Convention are imminent. Coming into force on 1 July 2016, the new law requires packed shipping containers to have a verified gross mass (VGM) before they are loaded on board for export. An industry coalition has created a Frequency Asked Questions (FAQs) document in response to questions that arose during the discussion of the SOLAS introduction. These amendments are imperative for enhancing safety in all aspects of the supply chain.

Festive Operating Hours

With the festive break a little over one week away, we'd like to let everyone know our operating hours during this time. The Western Australia Port Operations Task Force (WAPOTF) has also released their annual notification advising of the operating days of Fremantle Terminals, container depots and Quarantine.

Included in the same post is a timely reminder on detention amid the holidays.

China-Australia Free Trade Agreement

The long awaited China-Australia Free Trade Agreement (ChAFTA) will come into force on the 20th December 2015. The commencement brings with it an immediate round of tariff cuts and a further round of cuts on 1 January 2016. It is important to note that not all goods will be duty-free. There will also only be two authorised bodies in China that will be able to issue documentation. This documentation must be presented on each and every shipment.

Chinese New Year 2016

It seems like yesterday that we were reminding you of the Chinese New Year break for 2015. Well, another year has rolled around with CNY 2016 heralding in the Year of the Monkey. While CNY is a time to celebrate, it causes massive disruptions to shipping from China.

Head over to our website now to see how you can avoid delays and drama this Chinese New Year.

Lolly Competition

Santa's little helpers have almost completed the deliveries of EES' Christmas goodies. This year we ordered a colossal 75kgs of lollies to satisfy the biggest of sweet tooths out there. We've had a one correct guess, along with some very close guesses for our competition, but it also appears that no-one has noticed the coveted EES custom sticker on the inside of their white lids. Look out for the stickers and guess our mystery lolly flavour now.

EES Newsmakers

Last week EES' was profiled in the Cockburn Gazette showcasing our recent success at the Lloyd's List Shipping & Maritime Industry night. It was an exciting experience having a photographer come out to take snaps of the directors and staff. It was very surreal and is something we will remember for a long time to come.

Thank you Cockburn Gazette!

Congratulations Tracy!

November was a huge month for EES after our two commendations at the annual Lloyd's List Awards in Sydney. This month the Manager from R.Melling & Assoc (co-sharing our Cockburn Central office), Tracy Ferguson, carried on the winning way by being awarded the Ray Melling Student Achievement Award 2015. Presented at the Customs Brokers and Forwarders Council of Australia (CBFCA) annual Christmas Function, this award acknowledges all of Tracy's hard work and dedication to the Customs Broking course she has been studying for the last few years. Tracy is shown here with her mother Jeanette. Congratulations Tracy!

Happy Anniversary

Amanda Bradfield (Business Support - not to be confused with Amanda in Cartage), celebrates a big milestone this month. December marks her 19th year with EES. She started as a 17-year-old and is now responsible for keeping our blog and social media accounts up-to-date.
