Are You Ready?

If you arrange exporting from your country have you asked yourself which method you will be using to verify the gross mass of your shipping containers (VGM)?

The amendments to the SOLAS Convention come into force on the 1st July 2016. To avoid any unnecessary delays and additional costs, start planning now.

The Verified Gross Mass (VGM) of your container is compulsory. No VGM = no ship.

EES are able to offer a weighing service at your premises to comply with SOLAS method one. Addtional information will be available closer to the 1st July.

Close to the Coast

This apartment block, currently being constructed south of Perth, is certainly a sight to be seen!

The complex is going up fast thanks to the preassembled modular system that was imported from China.

One of our good friends and valued readers sent in the photographs that accompany this post. Thank you, Malcolm.

Embargo Lingers

The prohibition on air cargo originating from, or transiting through, Syria, Egypt, Bangladesh, Yemen and Somalia that came into force on the 19th December 2015, continues this month.

The UK Government have announced a ban on air cargo from Bangladesh also.

With no end in sight, suppliers and buyers are turning to sea freight to move their freight out of these countries.

Contact us today if you require further information or assistance with this embargo.

MV Rena Wreckage

In October 2011, container ship Rena ran aground off the coast of New Zealand. Months later, it broke up and subsequently sank to the bottom of the ocean.

The incident was labelled as one of the worst environmental disasters in New Zealand's history.

Nearly four and a half years on the wreck of the Rena has been given the all clear and is now considered navigationally safe. Head to our website to get a recap on this maritime disaster

New Additions

As you may know, 2016 marks our thirtieth year in business

We are continuing our growth this year and are pleased to announce that we have several new staff members that have joined our crew in our Cockburn Central office.

They are currently undergoing training, and we look forward to introducing them soon.

In the meantime, if you are unsure of who to contact for your queries, please contact Amanda, Business Support.

Unmanned Vessels

The maritime industry watches closely to see if the vision of unmanned container vessels will become a reality.

Many believe that autonomous shipping is the future and that it's not a matter of if, but when, these drone ships will begin moving cargo from A to B.

As Rolls-Royce continue to push forward with their futuristic visions of these vessels, we can't help but wonder if it is a good move forward?

This month we're celebrating the 60th birthday of containerisation! On April 26, 1956, the "Father of containerisation", Malcolm McLean, transported the very first seaborne shipping container on board the vessel Ideal X. Clarkson Research recently commented that containerised shipment is the glue that holds together today's global economy, and we'd have to agree. Happy 60th Birthday containerisation!

Happy Birthday Babs

There was one solitary birthday celebrated in our office in the month of April. Barbara Fraser, Accounts Assistant, turned one year older.

Happy Birthday Barbara, we hope that you enjoyed your special day.

April Anniversary

April was also a quiet month for anniversaries.

A big congratulations to Tara Blundell, Import Supervisor, as she celebrates four years at EES.

Thank you for your support over the years Tara.
