Jeanie's Three Quick Tips
Tip 1: Save Money
Is "free" is one of your favorite words?
Browse your local listings to find free events from concerts to Shakespeare on the Green.
Libraries in Omaha and surrounding areas offer free passes to the zoo, Fontenelle Forest, Lauritzen Gardens and more.
Housebound? Focus on the Family offers a free downloadable "World Explorers Adventure Kit:"
Tip 2: Organize
With kids out of school messes grow exponentially. (Yeah, we'll blame it on the kids.)
Teach children to pick up one set of toys before they pull out the next.
Set them up for success by only having a certain number of of toys available. Rotate the stock. (Toys, not cattle.)
Tip 3: Simplify
Boring is a four letter word.
Our daughter learned early on that saying, "I'm bored," led to additional chores. "You're bored? Go vacuum the entire upstairs."
You are not your children's entertainment committee. Give kids the opportunity to be responsible for their own no-cost entertainment. Young ones are amazingly creative when given the opportunity--or forced to be.
Let them put on plays, do crafts, create games, and build forts.
Boredom in banished when imaginations kick into gear.
