Around the World Wednesday
I am excited to inform you of a series of culinary events that will take place in your schools starting in January. I will be piloting a program called "Around the World Wednesday" at five of the elementary schools in ACPS. The second week of the month I will come to the schools and prepare an internationally inspired dish to be sampled during the lunches. The third Wednesday a month, the cafeteria will feature the same dish on the menu. This item will change every month and be plant based.

For January we will start of with the United Kingdom's Shepard's Pie.

One of our sister districts has had great success in the program resulting in increased student participation and student engagement. One of the ways they build excitement around "Around the World Wednesday" is to introduce non-food related activities and/or curriculum to tie into a culmination of culinary consumption.

Be Heard! Our New Guide for Telling Us Your Concerns, Inquiries and Suggestions
This month ACPS is introducing a new, standardized way for parents, guardians and community members to have their concerns, inquiries and suggestions addressed. We want to make sure that you are directed to the right staff to have your concerns addressed quickly, and that you are aware of the best paths for escalating unresolved issues.
Start with your school
Many questions or issues involving a specific student can be resolved at the school level. The best place to start is by contacting your child’s teacher, school support staff, or the front office.
This new guide — along with links to contact information for ACPS schools and offices — is available on the ACPS website at and under the Contact Us area.

Great news!  Over winter break Barrett will be getting new carpet in the auditorium!  Additionally, the wooden chairs in the auditorium will be replaced with cushioned chairs.  We are looking forward to seeing these changes after break!
Holiday Shop
We are still looking for volunteers for Saturday’s Holiday Shop.  Bring your kids, let them craft away in the cafeteria and then walk away, leaving the cleanup to us!
Principal Selection Focus Group
Stay on top of the Charles Barrett Principal Search Process and make sure your voice is heard.  Join us TONIGHT for a Parent Focus Group with John Porter, the lead on the search and selection process.  Thursday December 12th at 7:00pm in the Library
Giving Tree & Food Drive

“I want to be an inspiration to my students. Perhaps in ten or twenty years, I will be able to see one of my children - my students - walking across that stage.”
Last week we announced a new, standardized process. Take our quiz challenge and see how well you were paying attention!
This was a week where planning for 2020-21 was in full swing. The draft Program of Studies and the proposed ACPS calendar were both on the agenda. See the results of the calendar survey!
Kudos to our high school staff and students who are on a winning streak.
