What happens when people use their time and gifts to change the world...
Sandy Schmid did just that! She had a dream of opening a business that would benefit victims of human trafficking. After much prayer and convincing her husband Ted that he needed to help her with this dream, they opened "Second Story - A Thrifty Boutique"
in March 2014. The store is located in Simi Valley, California where it has truly made a name for itself! All of the items sold in the store are donated and all of the employees are volunteers! 100% of the net profits from the store are used to fight child trafficking and Life Impact is blessed to be one of the organizations they partner with.
In the store's second year in business, they had donated enough funds to us so that we were able to give one of our older safe homes a "Second Story"! We had a run down house on our Life Impact Promise Land that was existing when we purchased the property. This house was so old and dilapidated that it would literally shift as the family was sleeping at night! They would fall asleep on one side of the room, but would wake up on the other side because the wood beams were failing and the floor was being raised from the termite nest mounds underneath.
With the funds from Second Story, we were able to remodel the house completely! This house will now have laughter in it's walls and love in its rooms because of Sandy and Ted Schmid and the wonderful team of volunteers who give selflessly of their time and are dedicated to use what is in their hands to fight child trafficking! Second Story, you are our modern day hero and an example of how people can change the world with what they have!
