Covid-19: here for the long term

So many businesses had to pause trading during the worst of the lockdown that it became a challenge to find out which ones were still open. And from those, we needed to know what procedures they were using to continue functioning despite the challenges.

Covid statements on websites may irritate, but they do answer the basic questions people are asking: are you open? If so, how are you protecting the public from infection? In our quest for this information, we have found that websites without such a statement now seem oddly out of date.

The virus could be with us for at least another year and it is forcing us all to change our habits. As businesses re-open, the precautions we all take will matter more than ever in the coming months. So it's best to be up-front about them, see this example from Janie's Stringing.

Recent project: Edgton B&B

Nestling in the South Shropshire hills, Edgton B&B is one business that is cautiously opening. This simple, colourful website is the result of a joint project with artist Kate Chitham.

Kate and Peter's B&B, set in a large former rectory with many original features, should attract all manner of staycationers from intrepid cyclists to hill walkers. The bedrooms boast hand-decorations by Kate along with the usual fluffy towels and tea-making facilites. Visitors also benefit from the use of Kate's artist's studio as well as excellent cooking. And you can take it from us: the views are stupendous.

Do take a virtual tour if you're unable to get to Shropshire yourself. We hope you do manage to get away this summer.
