Creating a table in WordPress

It's so easy to create a table in WordPress these days. WordPress’s editing system, revamped a couple of years ago and christened Gutenberg, is now made up of ‘blocks’ that can define any content from plain paragraphs to images, buttons and quotes. One of these blocks is a table template that can be added to any page or post, and then adapted and filled. Adding a table is now as simple as choosing it from the library of blocks when you click on the little ‘plus’ sign in the editing area.

We had so much fun with table blocks that we wrote a whole new page for our Applegreen website with instructions on how to create, style and edit a table.

Some WordPress themes created by us may need an extra line or two of code to improve the look of the table. If this is you, please get in touch and we will add this free of charge.

Want more blocks?

Don’t be afraid to experiment with the Gutenberg blocks. Other useful ones include the spacer (to force a vertical separation between items), columns, social media icons with links and 'reusable' blocks for repeat templates.

Gutenberg has had its teething troubles, but now we feel it has come of age and is fulfilling its early promise of ease and flexibility.
We predicted back in August 2018 that ‘we would learn to love Gutenberg in the end’. Maybe that’s beginning to happen!

Stand by for more instructions pages unpacking further features of WordPress, very soon.

Tutorials via Zoom

A rare positive side-effect of the pandemic has been the discovery of screen sharing via Zoom. Not only does Zoom enable us to meet you remotely and safely, it also makes teaching WordPress more effective even than face to face. We can share the admin screen, hand over mouse control and talk you through the system. This can be a boon for people who learn “by doing” rather than by reading through instructions.

Tutorials are included in the price of a new project, but we can also make them available if your website was not developed by us. Contact us for details.
