Updates matter, so consider using Applegreen's new subscription service
Updating the system

WordPress’s core system and plugins need updating from time to time, usually once a month or so.

WP system updates provide bug fixes and security patches, so they are essential to keep up with. Plugins, often provided by third parties, need to keep pace to avoid incompatibilities in future.
So if you see this (above) next time you log in, you need to act. The system makes it easy: let it take you through the steps and the updates will kick in.

More complex WordPress installations have extra databases containing lists of products or members for example. If this applies to you, it is recommended that you back up your website before updating, in case the update breaks the site and you need to roll back to an earlier version – I should add that this is very rare.

If you are a confident user, either download a plugin like Updraft to create the backups, or contact your hosting company about backing up. The more expensive hosts automatically handle backups and updates for you: check whether this is the case for you.

But if you’re unsure and would like us to step in, we now offer a monthly update check for a subscription of £30/month. Sign up and we will visit your site once a month to check for updates and create a backup before proceeding, then test the site. With this service you can be sure your website is always up to date and working properly.

Updating the content

Don’t let your website fall behind in other ways either. Nothing makes us sadder, when we create a beautiful new website, than for it to go unused - and it's not just us: Google likes to see websites being kept fresh with new content. Older websites where nothing has changed for a long time tend to drop through the rankings.

Adding new posts, pages, or products (if you have an online shop), even editing and improving existing ones, will tell the world that your website is still relevant and current.

Contact us if you need any help or advice with any sort of update.
