Enterprise Zone Designation Provides Tax Credit for Snow College Donors

Big News!
Snow College Foundation now has designation as a 501(c)(3) charity located in a Rural Zone. This means that Utah donors may be eligible to receive a Utah tax credit of 50% of the value of their total annual contribution to Snow College.

The vision of Snow College, from the beginning, has been to honor its history and advance its rich tradition of excellence by creating learning and service opportunities, locally and globally. Snow College strives to engage students, faculty, staff, and surrounding communities by promoting and supporting events that bring our communities together and offer opportunities for economic growth.

Snow College has been making a difference in the lives of students and building futures since 1888. Students are drawn to Snow College because of its reputation for academic excellence and individual student care. Gifts from our friends, alumni, students, employees, corporations and foundations support and maintain the highest quality educational experiences for our students. Philanthropic support also funds scholarships, vital student programs, and capital improvements across campus.

When you contribute to Snow College, your gifts make a difference in so many ways. You can support students through the Kim Christison Theatre Scholarship Endowment, the Endowed Alumni Scholarship, or the new Robert M. and Joyce S. Graham Science Building. You can give to the department that means the most to you, such as: fine arts, business, nursing, athletics, etc. There are also numerous ways to give: cash; stocks; real estate; life insurance; and other estate planning options. By making a gift today, you can help build futures and continue the tradition of excellence at Snow College that began in 1888.

ALUMNI SPOTLIGHT

Derek White - 1992

Derek started his international career at Snow College when he received his Associates of General Studies in 1992. He then earned a B.A. at Utah State University, and went on to get an MBA of entrepreneurship at University of PA in 2004.
In April of last year, he was appointed by Lord Mayor Boris Johnson as a Technology Ambassador for London. His job is to actively promote London as a technology hotbed, and travel with the Mayor on Trade Missions. Derek is also Chief Design and Digital Officer for Barclays global digital estate. He designs, launches, and runs their mobile apps and innovation platforms.

What are some of your hobbies?

My hobbies are creating and coaching. During the week, I enjoy creating businesses; whether it be mentoring startups, or growing our businesses around the world. On weekends, I enjoy coaching my kids' sports teams (American football, baseball, and basketball) in London. For holidays, we love to visit family and friends in Utah.

What is your most memorable moment at Snow College?

There are so many memories from my time at Snow... from late-night study sessions, to disc golf across campus, to freshmen student senate. The most memorable moments were just every-day fun with friends and fellow students.

How did Snow College contribute to your accomplishments?

Snow College provided a great educational foundation, as well as friends, connections, and mentors that have helped me throughout my life and career. So many doors opened that I didn't know existed simply from my attending Snow. One example: I recently connected with the CEO of a multi-national company that attended Snow College, and we spent most of the call reminiscing about our time in Ephraim. We eventually did go on to do business together!

What advice would you give to other Snow College students/alumni?

My advice to all who have the privilege of attending Snow... Enjoy every minute! There really is no place like it! Also, dream big, and realize that anyone can achieve their dreams, whatever they may be! -- Derek

STUDENT SPOTLIGHT

First Alumni Scholarship Recipients Named!

The Snow College Alumni Association selected two students as the first Alumni Scholarship recipients. Erika Oveson and Payton Acor were awarded $1,544 each.
ERIKA OVESON

Erika plans to be a nurse. Her many heart and leg reconstructive surgeries have given her a tremendous desire to give back the help that others have given her. "I am honored to be selected to receive this award. It will make a difference because I will be getting an education to help and change other lives. It's such a great experience to go to such an amazing college that my grandfather also attended!"  Erika's grandfather is Gary Oveson, a 1967 alum.
PAYTON ACOR

Payton just earned her CNA this year and is pursuing her goal to achieve an advanced degree as a pediatric nurse practitioner. She volunteered with Eagle Condor Humanitarian Foundation, helping to build a community center and serving in hospitals near Cuzco, Peru. Payton has overcome learning disabilities to graduate with many academic honors. "My future will be filled with a great deal of study and hard work as I pursue my LPN, RN, and Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing, and ultimately an advanced degree as a Nurse Practitioner, specializing in Pediatrics.  I am currently employed by a home health care agency, and take care of elderly clients, and patients with disabilities. Job shadowing medical professionals at Utah Valley Regional Medical Center helped me get a clear picture of the area of medicine I want to pursue. Through my college and career choices, I hope to make a positive difference in the lives of others." Payton comes from a long history of Snow College alumni.
