SEPTEMBER FIRST FRIDAY

Science Building Campaign

The Project
For more than 125 years, Snow College has built a legacy of strong academics. Evidence of this reputation is apparent in the Science and Mathematics division where students engage in dynamic learning experiences. These students receive an experience seldom found at larger colleges or universities. Small class sizes, highly credentialed faculty, and experiential laboratories engage students in a high-touch learning environment. A hallmark of Snow’s legacy is to help students achieve their academic success when they depart regardless of their academic standing when they first enrolled. As a result, our students are very well prepared to transfer to four-year institutions and enter the workforce.

The Science Building Campaign will provide our campus community with a much-needed new facility that better reflects the quality of our faculty and students. Our current science building was constructed in 1972 when the College’s total enrollment was 708 students. Our current enrollment is more than 4,700 students. Despite our outdated and overcrowded facilities, we have developed exceptional science programs. Obviously, we have done much with less since the 1970s. By modernizing this facility, we expect to continue our success by coupling the best teaching practices with state-of-the-art technology.

This new and modern building will serve as an anchor for the College’s STEM programs. The facility will feature at least four modern lecture rooms, ten high-tech integrated classroom/labs and six additional advanced labs for biology, chemistry, and general sciences, and new spaces for faculty and students to collaborate and explore. Its construction features will also include science themes and interactive displays immersing all who enter the structure into a world of science. This will be a place where the spark of scientific inquiry and the spirit of service will be nurtured while students and faculty work together to reveal answers and propose new questions that can further scientific achievement.

A Superb Facility for a Superior Future
  • A modern three-story science facility where “science” happens everyday
  • 10 high-tech integrated classroom/labs for hands-on teaching and learning
  • 6 advanced labs devoted to chemistry, biology, and general sciences
  • 4 new lecture rooms accommodating a growing student body
  • Preparation and storage space cluster for maximum accessibility and use, easing lab prep time for faculty and increasing interaction with students
  • Capacity for new instructional techniques, flexible labs, new media, and distance learning
  • Ability to more effectively configure existing equipment, expand instrumentation space, and provide for acquisition for new equipment, to enhance student learning and research opportunities
  • Outdoor decks and indoor pavilions to provide all students new space in the heart of campus for conversations, collaborations, and peer-to-peer learning across academic disciplines

SEPTEMBER ALUMNI SPOTLIGHT:

Enid Graser '39

1. Where are you currently employed? I am currently retired, but was once a successful school teacher, teaching in Box Elder, Manti, Ogden, and then finishing her career in Ephraim.

2. What are your hobbies? Genealogy when I'm not busy helping at the Temple.

3. How did Snow College contribute to your accomplishments? By being such a small college at the time, teachers were very focused on creating a successful student. Snow College had such dedicated teachers that were willing to help me in any way. Also, going from high school to a small college at the time was a good decision.

4. What is your most memorable moment at Snow College? Being active in drama and involved a lot of plays. I enjoyed going to basketball games at a time when there wasn’t a Snow College football team yet. Having a graduating class of 89 students. Making many many close friends to make memories with and enjoying every little bit that Snow College had to offer.

5. What additional information would you like the alumni to know about you? Ephraim has been a good place to live. I enjoy seeing all the great changes that have happened on the Snow College campus and it has come a long way from being just a gym and a main building. Overall, I love Snow College and enjoyed the experiences I made at such an amazing school.
