eResearch Award Management Project Manager Announced!
Reducing the administrative burden of all who use the eResearch Proposal Management (eRPM) system is a high priority. That's why a working group was formed to gather system requirements for an Award Management tool that will improve the eRPM post-award user experience.
This group has been able to meet intermittently over the past two years, and we are now happy to announce a dedicated resource to this effort. ORSP has created the position of a full-time Award Management Project Manager. We are further pleased to announce that Kate Strzempek has accepted our offer to take on this role.
Kate is uniquely qualified for this position with a deep understanding of research administration business processes and the eRPM system. Congratulations, Kate!
Because Award Management is a significant undertaking and will take 100% of Kate's time, she will eventually be co-located in the Boyer Building with other eResearch ITS staff. Kate will still report to Craig Reynolds, but will work closely with ITS to help put the Award Management system in place. She begins the transition to this role on February 1, but will retain many of her current duties during the transition period in the next few months.

Assistant Director Search to Begin
Additionally ORSP will be posting a newly created ORSP Assistant Director position (to be found on the U-M jobs site). In addition to supervising the ORSP Support Staff, the Assistant Director will develop and execute a plan to fully utilize UMOR's new human resources and budget shared services function, and support Craig in his duties (leading ORSP's day-to-day operations, providing university-wide leadership in ensuring compliance with sponsor requirements and U-M administrative policies and procedures). Additionally, the Assistant Director will oversee communications, training, and data/reporting initiatives. As a result, Constance Colthorp, Amanda Coulter,and Dan Stanish will now report to the Assistant Director, with a dotted line to Daryl Weinert, Associate Vice President for Research.

With the revised NIH Grants Policy Statement (NIHGPS) and the summary of significant changes, be sure to read the documentation shared and note that with the exception of K awards or other grant programs that require a specific effort level, or where terms and conditions prohibit such reductions, NIH will not require prior approval for the reduction in effort for Senior/Key personnel during a No Cost Extension Period. AAHRPP is Coming!
AAHRPP will visit the U-M campus March 30-April 1
We view this as a chance to demonstrate to AAHRPP and to ourselves that we can conduct important research while providing superior protection to our human subjects!
AAHRPP, the Association for the Accreditation of Human Research Protection Programs, is an independent organization that reviews and accredits institutions engaged in human subjects research to protect the rights and welfare of the research participants. U-M has been accredited since 2008 and is scheduled for a re-accreditation visit on March 30, 2016.
Accreditation bolsters the university’s reputation as a leader in human subjects research. Research sponsors and other research partners increasingly consider AAHRPP accreditation before pursuing collaborations, or providing funding, for research.
Who’s involved?
Anyone involved in human research, including:
• PIs and their study teams;
• IRB members and staff;
• U-M HRPP representatives; and
• The Vice President for Research
What’s expected?
You may be selected by site visitors for an interview. It’s never too early to prepare for an AAHRPP site visit! Re-familiarize yourself with U-M’s Human Research Protections Program (HRPP). To start, we recommend reviewing the:

NCCN has received a grant from Boehringer Ingelheim Pharmaceuticals, Inc. to support NCCN investigator initiated studies for the performance of preclinical, clinical, and correlative studies of afatinib containing combinations in the treatment of lung and head and neck cancers. It is the first project approved for the NCCN which incorporates collaborations with multiple pharmaceutical companies.
