Facebook Research is providing two Requests for Proposals to university faculty to submit short applications (2 pages) in the following areas:
Hardware and Software Systems
For research at the intersection of computer systems and machine learning, including, but not limited to:
- Machine learning benchmarks (especially beyond computer vision)
- Workload characterization tools and techniques for machine learning applications
- Hardware architectures for efficient and scalable machine learning
- Machine learning frameworks and compiler flows to facilitate efficiency, portability, and interoperability
- Techniques to facilitate machine learning on resource-constrained edge devices
- System impact of distributed training including issues related to computing, networking, and storage
- Approaches that apply machine learning for research in traditional hardware and software systems
- System analysis and optimization of machine learning approaches beyond deep learning
Computer Communications and Networking
A wide range of networking research, including, but not limited to:
- Network architectures and algorithms
- Routing, traffic engineering, switching, and addressing
- Network monitoring and diagnosis
- Internet traffic and content (including video) distribution networks
- Operating system and host support for networking
- Measurement of and statistics methods/machine learning/data mining applied to networks
- Network management and operations
