New! PEERRS Responsible Conduct of Research & Scholarship (RCRS) Training course available 06/08/2020

The U-M Program for Education and Evaluation in Responsible Research and Scholarship (PEERRS) in partnership with UMOR Research Integrity is streamlining and strengthening its training curriculum.

NewThe new PEERRS Responsible Conduct of Research & Scholarship (RCRS) Training course, available 06/08/2020, replaces the following PEERRS courses:
  • Authorship, Publication and Peer Review ("Authorship")
  • Conflicts of Interest ("COI")
  • Foundations of Good Research Practices ("Foundations")
By combining RCRS content currently addressed in three PEERRS courses into a single course, we are able to reduce the number of courses investigators are required to take to demonstrate their compliance with institutional guidelines for responsible conduct of research and scholarship training.

Who is required to take this new PEERRS course?

All investigators listed in the following roles on a sponsored proposal application form (PAF) or sponsored award will be required to take the new Responsible Conduct of Research & Scholarship (RCRS) Training course:
  • U-M Principal Investigator
  • U-M Sponsor Principal Investigator
  • Participating Investigator with Specified Effort
  • Participating Investigator without Specified Effort
  • Other Non-Faculty Investigator

Will the RCRS training requirement impact my pending sponsored award?

To give investigators time to transition to the new RCRS training requirement, the Office of Research and Sponsored Projects (ORSP) currently will accept active certifications in the PEERRS Foundations course as equivalent RCRS training as part of its award processing procedures.

warningHowever, if an investigator's certification in Foundations expires or the Foundations course was never taken by the investigator, ORSP will place a hold on a pending award or award modification until such time that the investigator completes the RCRS course.

Will I be able to take/complete the PEERRS COI, Foundations, or Authorship courses after 06/08/20?

No, and there would be no reason to do so, as the RCRS course replaces those courses. The Authorship and COI courses will be inactivated and removed from My LINC as of 06/08/20. The ability to register for the Foundations course will be disabled as of 06/08/20, but the course will remain "active" behind the scenes in My LINC to assist ORSP in conducting the training certification check on pending awards.
