Continuity of support for renewable
NIH grant (types P, T, R, or U) with a
current end date between
6/30/2016 to 9/30/1

Submit your competing renewal application for one of the dates in Receipt Cycle II to ensure continuity of support. If you have a renewable NIH grant (types P, T, R, or U) with a current end date between 6/30/2016 and 9/30/2016, you will need to submit your competing renewal application for one of the dates in Receipt Cycle III to ensure continuity of support.  This cycle starts on 9/25/15 and goes through 1/7/2016.  This is for earliest start date of 7/1/2016.

What is my deadline and what steps must I take for success?

  1. The PAF and application should be finalized in the eResearch Proposal Management System (eRPM) at least 4 business days before the due date. When submitting to ORSP, please respect this deadline policy.
  2. For Grants.gov submissions via eRPM, you must locate the appropriate Funding Announcement in the NIH Guide
  3. Enter the Funding Announcement number in eRPM.
  4. The system will provide the links to the required and optional forms associated with the Funding Announcement.

Where can I find Forms?

What else should I consider with regard to budgets, direct or indirect costs?

  • Note that some institutes limit the increase in direct costs that can be requested in a renewal application.
  • Please review institute guidelines before preparing budgets. Competing applications with Direct Costs of $250,000 or less must be submitted according to the NIH Modular Grant Application guidelines.
  • Acceptance for Review of Unsolicited Applications that request  $500,000 or more in Direct Costs (Notice NOT-OD-02-004) - Indirect Costs associated with subcontracts are not included in the $500,000 limit. This approval must be sought at least 6 weeks prior to the submission date.
