The Rev. Laura C. Truby, Rector

Dr. James Denman, Director of Music
O God, who declarest thy almighty power chiefly in showing mercy and pity: Mercifully grant unto us such a measure of thy grace, that we, running to obtain thy promises, may be made partakers of thy heavenly treasure; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who liveth and reigneth with thee and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever.  Amen.
BCP 182
We are pleased that the Vestry approved the Believe out Loud Statement, which will be added to our Mission Statement.  Members of our parish had the opportunity to learn about this on Sunday June 12th following the 8 and 10:15 services.
The purpose of All Saints is to celebrate God's love and seek and serve Christ in all persons, and to go forth into the world, rejoicing in the power of the spirit.  Your presence is a blessing regardless of your background, sexual orientation, gender identity, race, or ethnicity, age or family structure, abilities or limitations or wherever you are in life's journey.
Kathy Martin, Outreach Chair
Are you longing for new adventures? Novel activities? Interested in making a contribution in a rewarding and enjoyable way? Look no further — why not JOIN THE CHOIR?
Chancel Choir Openings
New voices in All Saints’ Chancel Choir are always welcome. We gather twice weekly to share time and talent, combining each other’s efforts in a parish ensemble that makes weekly contributions to All Saints’ worship life, leading music at the 10:15 service by supporting congregational singing and offering choral selections to enhance the celebration of the day.
Neither church membership nor auditions are required. Rehearsals are 7:30 to 9:00 on Thursday evenings, with Sunday rehearsal and service from 9:30 to 11:45. Please contact Jim Denman, parish Music Director, at 503-927-6177 or by email at
Family Choir Opportunity
Not able to schedule two events a week? Perhaps you have young singers in your family? Consider making a gift of your time in the FAMILY CHOIR. This intergenerational group rehearses each Sunday following the 10:15 service and coffee hour, singing on Youth Sunday (the fourth Sunday of every month). Parents and children welcome! Please contact Belinda Nissen, Family Choir director, through the parish office: (503) 777-3829.
Instrumentalists Invited!
Play an instrument? How about joining the Fourth Sunday Ensemble? This group welcomes players of every stripe to a read-through and musical offering, starting at 9:15 every fourth Sunday morning, and enhancing the 10:15 family service with rich and colorful accompaniment. Contact Jim Denman at the above phone or email to express your interest. We’re looking forward to having you join us!

Come early this Sunday, September 25, 2016, for your name tag.
We will be meeting our new Administrative Assistant,
and your name tags will help her put faces to names.
Thank you.

You are invited to an Adult Forum, beginning this Sunday at 9:15 a.m. in the Guild Room to watch the DVD "The Story of Paul the Apostle".  It will consist of three 20-25 minute sections, with discussion following.
September 25:  Paul's background through his first journey
October 2:  2nd & 3rd journeys through his arrest in Caesarea
October 9:  Imprisonment in Rome through his influence in Christendom

A good overview, it covers the basic tenets of St. Paul's beliefs and teaching.
Produced by the History Channel and narrated by Martin Sheen, it uses lots of images from great works of art, old movie footage, contemporary scenes, some reenactment, and noted theological scholars from various traditions.

Dear God, Thank you that we were able to process a major and complex decision tonight! Thank you for the genuine openness, careful listening and discernment, questions and sharpness of the Vestry, for their readiness to act, and for the manner in which they conducted business. Thank you for the spirit growing among us of trusting each other's work and intentions. Thank you for surprising us with this amazing opportunity! Thank you for the example of personal investment, judicious processing and self-giving of Chuck Martin, for without him, this would not have come about. Thank you that Homestead Schoolhouse is coming to All Saints!!! Thank you that the visioning birthed by the 2010 Vestry is now fulfilled. Thank you for providing this miraculous way to connect with and serve the needs of our Woodstock neighborhood. Thank you for providing for their needs, and for ours! Thank you for providing for parents and the littlest of children, and for bringing them to us. Thank you that we have resources to share for the well-being of others. Thank you for the gift of being part of All Saints where your love is evident. Amen.

Other Vestry Action, August 16, 2016

The resolution was approved as follows: All Saints Episcopal Church of Portland commits to increasing our payments of DPA due by up to 5% a year starting from 2016 with the goal of reaching 100% in the year 2023. In recognition of this commitment, the diocese will forgive the portion of unpaid DPA for each of the years from now until then as we strive to full payment. We are grateful to the Diocese for their support and assistance as we return to a fully sustaining status.
The Hat and Scarf Ministry invites members of our Church to join us in knitting or crocheting gats and or scarves for those in need. You need not belong to the Ministry in order to help with this outreach project. On November 19, during the Hot Meals Thanksgiving dinner, each of our guests will receive a handmade hat and scarf.

If you would like to join us in this Ministry, in addition to helping others who are less fortunate, it is a good way to use your yarn scraps. There is a greater need for masculine colors rather than feminine colors.

Should you be in need of yarn, needles, or a pattern for simple hats, please contact me by phone or email. Or, catch me at coffee following the 10:15 a.m. service.

Cold weather will be here before we know it. Special thanks to all who want to join us in helping keep others warm.

Dear All Saints Family,

Thank you for all your cards, notes, love and support for me and for Andrew.  This is one note I received among many that really touched me. "You and your family gave a wonderful celebration for Don. Your Church is very very special - what a wonderful place to pray." I am blessed to have you all in my life.
