In the crib, Jesus radiates what the world so much needs today -- gentleness, tenderness, light and hope.
  • Gentleness -- as the answer to all violence.
  • Tenderness -- as the answer to the lack of goodness, benevolence and love of our brothers and sisters (even among those who call themselves Christians).
  • Light -- as the answer to the shadows that darken the present time.
  • Hope-- as the answer to those who feel abandoned or who find no meaning in their lives.
~ Little Sister Magdeleine of Jesus
(Founder of the Little Sisters of Jesus, 1898-1989)

We, the All Saints staff, wish you each the gifts we so need today that Jesus brings.

Merry Christmas!

Seeing the Face of God in Each Other:

We will be held accountable for repeating misinformation after we have heard and learned otherwise.

We have an obligation to challenge the myths and stereotypes about our own groups and other groups.

We will actively pursue opportunities to learn about all groups of people, yet not enter or invade another's privacy when unwanted.

Hot Meals Christmas Celebration
On Saturday, December 17, we had a successful and festive Hot Meals Christmas dinner. The 89 hungry guests who attended were treated to a dinner of spiced ham with all the trimmings, prepared by Ena Weick and her volunteer crew. Portland Chamber Music provided us with beautiful Christmas music and other classical selections, and each guest was given a Christmas card and a gift bag containing hygiene items, candy, and a new pair of socks.
There were about two dozen gift bags left over from the Hot Meals event, and these were made available on Sunday for our All Saints folks to put in their cars so that they could give them out to any homeless people they may encounter. I have already gotten some good feedback from this. I would love to hear about any experiences from those who took the bags and gave them out. Giving out these bags is a blessing to both giver and recipient!

Gifts for Holgate House
All Saints has been sending Christmas Gifts to individuals at Holgate House for a very long time and the tradition continues this year. The children and their families delivered the gifts on December 21st. We sang to the residents at their doors as we delivered the gifts.

Thank you ...
To the volunteers who yet one more time came out to finish landscaping our church property. Thanks to Steve and Laurie McDowell who moved the large mound of mulch and spread it over all the flower beds; and thanks to David and Sonja Miller who moved the large mound of gravel to the garden and low drainage spots;  and thanks to Amelia and Sondre Brooks for digging and clearing the new fern bed.
And thanks to Matt Johnston who climbed shaky ladders to put lights on our outdoor Christmas tree, and helpers Jacob Mathai, Steve Miller and Deb Miller.
With grateful thanks to all who have helped make the Junior Warden's job easier

Confirmation Classes for Youth and Adults on Sundays,
January 15, 22 & 29 at 9:15 a.m.
Sign up sheet available in the Parish Hall.

Confirmation classes will be offered for those interested in exploring the possibility of being confirmed or received. They will take place on four Sundays in January from 9:15-10:00 in the Guild Room.  These classes are for any youth or adult in our parish who is ready to consider
and explore making a "mature commitment" of faith.

"Confirmation is appropriate for those of any age who are making a mature commitment for the first time," as the Bishop's Customary says.

"Reception is for those who have previously made a mature commitment in any other Christian church, regardless of the pedigree of the minister."

Reaffirmation is for those who want to renew their faith asking the Holy Spirit to direct and uphold them in the service of Christ and his kingdom.

The Bishop's Visitation is the special opportunity for confirmation, reception, and reaffirmation of one's faith with the laying on of hands.

Bishop's Visitation

Our Bishop, The Rt. Rev. Michael J. Hanley, will be coming to All Saints for his annual visit on Sunday, February 19, 2017. The Bishop's Visitation is an opportunity for Baptism, Confirmation, Reception and Reaffirmation. Please speak with Kathy Martin or Mother Laura if you are interested. Confirmation classes can be provided.
  • Confirmation is for children who were baptized in the Episcopal Church or who came to this church with their families before making a "mature commitment."
  • Confirmation is also appropriate for those of any age who are making a mature commitment for the first time.
  • Reception is for those who have previously made a mature commitment in any other Christian church, regardless of the pedigree of the minister.
We hope to have our new altar dedicated by Bishop Michael, as well as to have him bless our new Meditation Garden during his time with us.
