Almighty God, whom truly to know is everlasting life: Grant us so perfectly to know your Son Jesus Christ to be the way, the truth, and the life, that we may steadfastly follow his steps in the way that leads to eternal life; through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord, who lives and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.
Mother Laura on Vacation
The week of Monday, May 15 through Monday, May 22, Mother Laura will be out of town celebrating her 46th wedding anniversary with her husband, Tom.  They look forward to exploring the southeast corner of Oregon in the Steen Mountain region for the first time.....On the Sunday she is away, May 21, the Rev. Liz Powers will serve as celebrant, and the Rev. Deacon Kathleen Borsch will preach.  For any pastoral emergencies, please contact Cris at the church office.
Mother Laura has a new email. Please check with Cris in the office for the address.
Nursery Opens on Mother's Day
Progress is well underway toward creating new, beautiful space for our Sunday School and Nursery, thanks to the refurbishing make-over work in process by Kiley Cronen from Homestead Preschool.  New oak flooring, fresh paint, child-sized sinks with granite counters, etc, will enhance the space for our children as well.  While it is not totally complete, we welcome parents to bring their children to Keiter Hall this Sunday to see the new facelift and to drop off their children!  Thank you all for your patience, and especially to Laura Axon and Tami Perkins.

“What difference does it make if I go to church or not? What does liturgy have to do with life?” In the film, “With Burning Hearts”, Father Henri Nouwen shows us how the Eucharist is an intensely human event, revealing the deepest of human experience.
We will view this film in our Adult Forum at 9:30 this Sunday, and it will serve as an introduction to a study series on the life and work of Henri Nouwen.

To close out the school year, the youth group will once again be participating in World Vision's "30-Hour Famine!" From 12:00pm on Friday, May 26th until 6:00pm on Saturday, May 27th we shall be abstaining from food in solidarity with the millions of children around the world who are hungry or malnourished.
Those who are able are encouraged to sponsor one of the youth taking part in the famine by making a donation. One good suggestion is to offer to donate $1 for every hour we'll go without food. 30 hours would mean just $30, and that's enough to feed, clothe, house, and educate a child in the developing world for an entire month, but any donation is appreciated!
If you would like to know any more about the famine, please direct inquiries to Noah Kilian, our youth ministries coordinator. Thank you!
Holy Baptism Opportunity
The celebration of the feast Day of Pentecost falls on Sunday, June 4th.  It is one of the ideal recommended times for Holy Baptism.  If you know of someone who may desire to have their child baptized, or be baptized themselves, please speak with Rev. Laura Truby.  Thank you.

Ten Years of Service
Our special thanks to Pat Ten Broeke, who has faithfully served in the role of teacher and leader of the Tuesday Bible Study Group.  This weekly group has been blessed by the spirited leadership of this gifted teacher who had a career as a college professor.  This group has not only studied the Holy Scriptures, but has  offered prayers and sent cards to our entire parish in times of need.  We all thank you, Pat!

Endowment Committee Update
Our 2017 Endowment Committee met this week.  It consists of five members, who typically are elected for 5-year terms:  Craig Gibson, Ken Meeker, Matt Johnston, Joan Barnes, and Ardis Weir.  They elect their own chair, and have elected Craig Gibson to serve in that capacity for this year.  They also voted to direct interest on endowment monies toward replaying the diocese for the roof loan replacement.
Emerging Kenya Church Gathering Here

An Update on Sunday, May 7
Kenyans Gathering for Prayer at All Saints

A Successful First Meeting

"We are so grateful to God for the successful first prayer meeting we had yesterday. About 20 people showed up! We had a great moment of prayer and worship. We also interacted freely with them at the fellowship hall after the meeting....Everyone in the group opened up and we had a very healthy discussion.

We are more excited about His calling and we know we are in Portland for a divine purpose! I believe a majority of those who came yesterday will come back next Sunday as we continue keeping Portland steered!

Have a blessed week and please keep us in your prayers."
Pastor Isaac Kangara

Dear Staff and Vestry,
I regret to announce to you that the staff of ROSS who occupy the top floor of All Saints will be leaving us near the end of this calendar year. This non-profit program that serves Russian immigrant women and children began in our facility and has continued for 23 years. Their current Director, Ms. Tamara Burkovskaia, came to tell me how sad she and her staff are about their slated move.  I feel the same way, as the relationships have been gratifying, and their presence a precious gift.
The Chief Finance and Operations Officer of EMO (Ecumenical Ministries of Oregon) met with me and Chuck Martin, Building Use Manager to convey the news.  Funding requirements from DHS and state agencies for domestic violence clients are unfortunately driving the move.
ROSS will be relocating in a building housing other EMO programs on NE 79th and Halsey.  The expected move, sometime in November, will not affect the income we are contracted to receive for rental through the end of 2017.
Please pray for God's guidance for another beneficial non-profit that we might be able to house in 2018.  In the meantime, we will enjoy them, and hope to give them a special send-off before they depart.
Mother Laura Truby

From ROSS:
Mother Laura,
Thank you so much for such a cordial note.  We deeply appreciate the friendship and support from you, your staff  and other church members and hope that we will stay in touch. You all and this wonderful place will remain in my heart.
Daughters of the King

Members of our Daughters of the King met this week for Morning Prayer. Pictured are Nancy Patrick, President, Rev. Liz Powers, Chaplain, and Marjorie Ashcraft, new member.

Meetings will be suspended for the summer months and resume in September on the second Thursday of the month.
Please look at the Altar Flower Chart in the Narthex. There are many blank lines hoping to receive signatures of parishioners  to contribute towards Sunday's Altar Flowers. Thank you for your giving and keeping our Altar Flowers as full as the hearts of the parishioners, with their honorings, celebrations and rememberings.
