Purify our conscience, Almighty God, by your daily visitation, that your Son Jesus Christ, at his coming, may find in us a mansion prepared for himself; who lives and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.
Hot Meals Christmas Celebration

This Saturday, December 23rd, we will be giving 100 gift bags containing hygiene items and new socks to our guests at the Hot Meals Christmas Dinner. Thanks to all who have contributed items for this, and special thanks to Rebekah Borsch and Nancy Patrick for helping to fill all the bags.

Please join us for the Children's Liturgy for Christmas Eve.
Children of all ages are encouraged to be a part of this fun and joyous
All Saints tradition!
  • A storyteller will recount the Christmas story.
  • Interspersed with the story, we will sing familiar Christmas hymns such as "O Little Town of Bethlehem," "Away in the Manger," "We Three Kings," "Silent Night" and more.
  • The children will carry the crèche figures from the back of the church to the chancel to create the manger.
  •  Join us, bring your family, bring your friends, and sing into the Mystery of Christmas.

Important Holgate Gifts Update ...

Most of the gifts were delivered to Holgate House on Tuesday, December 19. Unfortunately, two gifts were missing:
  • the gift for Jacquie in room 405
  • the gift for Susanna in room 509.
If you chose to donate these gifts and will no longer be able to, please contact Laura Axon as soon as possible so she can make other arrangements for Jacquie and Susanna before Christmas day.

Thank you.

Thank you for all the gifts shared during the past year:
time, talent and treasure!
We welcome end of year gifts through your Christmas offering.
Mustard Seed and Book Nook Thrift Store will be closed for the holidays so the volunteers can have a break. They will reopen their doors on Friday, January 5th 2018
Tom is Recovering!
The Rev. Dr. Tom Truby is making steady progress in his recovery every day. Surely your love and prayers are contributing to that, and we thank you for your tremendous support. Tom no longer has the feeding tube and is beginning to use the walker but is still at OHSU in the Acute Care Unit on floor 5A, room 8.

His doctor says his earliest possible release from the hospital is tomorrow, Friday December 22. From there he would be sent to a facility for nursing care and rehabilitation. Both his physical and mental capacities are in process of returning. Your ongoing prayers mean everything.

The generous offering of the 8:00 a.m. parishioners to cancel their service this Sunday and next (December 24 & 31), and the offers to assist from our resident priests, Rev. Liz Powers and Rev. Deborah Hughes-Habel, means so much.

Thank you.
~ Mother Laura

Parish Profile Update

Our Parish Profile was affirmed and endorsed by our Vestry at their November meeting. The next step is to send it to the Diocese for review. Special thanks to all who contributed to this process and especially for the leadership of Mary Earl, Laura Axon, Laurie McDowell, Chris McClave, Ardis Weir, Sonja Miller, Ruth Mumm and Jerry Meter.
BIRTHDAY HELP

One tradition in churches is to have a basic data base on members – including when they were born. Fortunately, we have the birth dates of most of our parishioners, but some are missing.

Our Profile Committee has set a goal to have a bar chart showing how membership fits in age categories (like 20-29, 30-39, etc.) I have agreed to collect and prepare this data for our search process which begins after Mother Laura retires on February 1st.

If you are not contacted, it means we already have your information.

Thank you,

Chuck Martin

Thank you to all attendees who participated in our exploration of world religions. After prayerful consideration, Adult Forum is on hiatus and will resume in the new year.

A Prayer for Special Guidance
Almighty Lord, source of all knowledge and loving kindness, bring your grace upon the  All Saint’s Search Committee as we discern the needs of our parish in finding a new priest to serve as our Spiritual guide. Give us ears to hear, open hearts to feel, and clarity of vision so we might see your light. Shine your light upon us and grant us courage to move forward for your Honor and Glory. Let us all work together in your spirit of love for all who make up our All Saints’ community. We ask this For His Sake, our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. Amen

Girardian Glossary of Terms (as defined by Abbot Andrew Marr, OSB in "Moving and Resting in God's Desire: a Theology of Peace")

  • Incarnation:  The doctrine that the Second Person of the Trinity, known as the Son, and called "the Word" in John 1, took on human nature via the Blessed Virgin Mary and became a particular human being, namely Jesus of Nazareth..

  • Meditation:  In Christian spirituality, refers to a systematic reflection on a Bible story or a spiritual theme, such as forgiveness. Not to be confused with mediation as understood in Eastern traditions such as Hinduism and Buddhism, which stress the emptying of the mind in various ways, akin to contemplative prayer.
