The Rev. Laura C. Truby, Rector
The Rev. Kathleen Borsch, Deacon
Dr. James Denman, Director of Music
Cristina Breshears, Administrative Assistant

Almighty God, whose Son our Savior Jesus Christ is the light of the world: Grant that your people, illumined by your Word and Sacraments, may shine with the radiance of Christ's glory, that he may be known, worshipped, and obeyed to the ends of the earth; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who with you and the Holy Spirit lives and reigns, one God, now and for ever. Amen.
My husband, Tom, will be coming home from Mirabella, where he has been receiving rehabilitation therapies with skilled nursing care. I pick him up tomorrow, Friday morning, early in the day!!

He was hospitalized on December 7 at OHSU for 18 days, followed by 18 days at Mirabella. Thank you for all the many ways you have stood by us in this tender and uncertain time in our lives.

God is returning his mental acuity and physical strength, a process which will continue for some time. He hopes to be with us for my final Sunday, along with the rest of my family. By February, Tom is looking forward to returning to his church and resuming his work.

Gratefully and with joy,
Mother Laura

All Parish Annual Meeting
Sunday, January 21, 2018

Following the 10:15 a.m. Service there will be a parish potluck in Watson Hall followed by our annual meeting in which we elect new members of the vestry, review our budget, and share important reports highlighting 2017.
Godly Play
This Godly Play lesson of Epiphany led by Miriam Lain. The lesson includes the burning of Frankensen and Myrrh.

My son Charlie and I made a Galette des Rois for Epiphany. Three people had the lucky bean in their portion, received a crown and tidings of a prosperous new year ahead.

Cheers,
Laura Axon
All Saints will have one combined Farewell Service at 10:15 a.m. on Sunday, January 28. A retirement reception for Mother Laura will  be held in the Parish Hall immediately after the service. Please join us as we bid farewell and wish Mother Laura all the best on her next chapter.
In Sympathy

Alicia Swindel passed away on Friday, January 5, 2017, at the age of 90.

A Memorial Service will take place in our Sanctuary on Saturday, January 20, at 3:00 p.m. with a reception following in Parish Hall.

May her soul rest in the everlasting peace of Christ in the place prepared for her.

AFFLUENZA (not Influenza)

3-week video series: January 7, 14, and 21

Alert!
An outbreak of Affluenza has been reported in your area.

Symptoms:
Swollen Expectations, Hypercommercialism, Shopping Fever, a Rash of Bankruptcies, Fractured Families, Chronic Stress, Social Scars and Resource Exhaustion.

Treatment:
Four out of five doctors recommend seeing the PBS production AFFLUENZA for instant relief. Join us for this informative video during Adult Forum.

Affluenza is a fascinating look at one of the greatest social maladies of our tiome: overconsumption and materialism. Hosted by National Public Radio's Scott Simon, the program explores both the comical and sobering aspects of our consumerism and its enormous impact on families, communities, and the environment.

Bishop Michael Hanley has approved our 2018 All Saints Parish Profile!

Special thanks to all who contributed to this process and especially for the leadership of Mary Earl, Laura Axon, Laurie McDowell, Chris McClave, Ardis Weir, Sonja Miller, Ruth Mumm and Jerry Meter.
A Prayer for Special Guidance
Almighty Lord, source of all knowledge and loving kindness, bring your grace upon the  All Saint’s Search Committee as we discern the needs of our parish in finding a new priest to serve as our Spiritual guide. Give us ears to hear, open hearts to feel, and clarity of vision so we might see your light. Shine your light upon us and grant us courage to move forward for your Honor and Glory. Let us all work together in your spirit of love for all who make up our All Saints’ community. We ask this For His Sake, our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. Amen

Girardian Glossary of Terms (as defined by Abbot Andrew Marr, OSB in "Moving and Resting in God's Desire: a Theology of Peace")

  • Conflictual mimesis:  Imitating another person with whom one is in conflict over a mutually desired object.
  • Body of Christ:  Image for the Church used by St. Paul (1Cor.12:12-31). Suggests unity-in-diversity among the members. Also suggests a collective participation in Christ.

We invite you to take a look at our website often, not only to see how it is updated, but because when you do, our website will come up at the top when people are looking for a church.  It is based on how many "hits" or visits a website gets, the frequency of interest in the site. Jerry puts a lot of work into our website and it is beautiful. Check it out here!
