Almighty God, the fountain of all wisdom, you know our necessities before we ask and our ignorance in asking: Have compassion on our weakness, and mercifully give us those things which for our unworthiness we dare not, and for our blindness we cannot ask; through the worthiness of your Son Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.
Our new nursery in the Homestead Preschool
is ready for childcare on Sundays!

On Vacation

Mother Laura is beginning a four-day family reunion in Little Rock, Arkansas, with persons she knew throughout her formative years in the country of Bolivia.  This, the 10th Bolivia Missionary Reunion, is anticipated to be the last.  Sunday morning, she and her husband Tom will be leading the Service of Remembrance, a Holy Eucharist. Your thoughts and prayers are much appreciated.

On Sunday, July 23, the Rev. Dr. Graham M. Smith will be presiding and preaching at both services. He is the recently retired dean of Saint George's College Jerusalem and is making his home in Oregon.

All Saints is saying farewell to two of our beloved families:

Nathan, Amelia, and Sondre Brooks are moving down to Pittsburg, California.
Corey, Andrea, Liora, and Langston Banfield are moving across the country to Nashville, TN.

We feel sorrow in your leaving, yet we rejoice with you in anticipation of this new chapter of your life. We will miss your love and support, yet we know you will add much to the lives of those who will be your new church family, as you have added much to our lives.

A reception is planned for Sunday, July 30, at 11:45 a.m.

We praise and thank you, God of the journey,
for our brothers and sisters who are soon to leave us.
We entrust them into your loving care,
knowing that you are always the faithful traveler
   and companion on the Way.

Shelter and protect them from all harm and anxiety.
Grant them the courage to meet the future,
and grace to let go into new life;
through Jesus Christ our Saviour. Amen.

Vestry Openings

We regret that we must say farewell this month to two of our valued Vestry members who are moving away:  Amelia Brooks and Corey Banfield.  We thank them for serving in this important leadership capacity.

By vote between annual meetings, members of the Vestry are able to secure replacements when vacancies arise.  We will be looking for two new persons to fill out the remaining time left for the Class of 2017 and the Class of 2019.

If you might be interested in learning more about what it means to serve on the Vestry, please speak to Mother Laura, one of the Officers, or a member of the Vestry.  They are pictured in the glass case in the entryway (Narthex).  Please let one of us know if you would like to be considered for this position.

Thank you,

Mother Laura

Up-To-Date!

Most people are current on their Financial Pledges. We appreciate it so much, especially during the summer months! Thank you!

SAVE THE DATE!

Our end-of-summer Outdoor Service is planned for Sunday, August 27 at 10:15 a.m. Seating provided on pavement.

The All Parish Picnic will start after the service

One service only.

Several people asked for the name of Abbott Andrew Marr's excellent book that I have been quoting, so let me share it here in case others want it as well. Our friend, Andrew, is a monk of St. Gregory's Abbey in Three Rivers, Michigan, a Benedictine monastery in the Episcopal Church.  I am using this for my daily devotional time and finding it readable and richly instructive on the practice of Christian spirituality using the Gospel and insights of Rene Girard.  I commend it to you.

Moving and Resting in God's Desire:  A Spirituality of Peace
by Andrew Marr, OSB
St. Gregory's Abbey Press
After much thought and hard work, our fence around the front lawn will be a reality!   Cornerstone Fencing Company will start on our fence project today.

The Vestry voted and overwhelmingly agreed to the design proposal and the funding
expenditure.  Cornerstone has assured us that they can get the job done before August 27, in time for our All Parish Picnic.

We will have an aluminum three-rail fence system that surrounds the entire front lawn. Each panel will be 6 feet wide and 4 feet high.  The posts will measure 2 ½” x 2 ½” and the pickets will measure ¾”  x  ¾”. This will ensure the strength of the fence to keep our little ones safe, both our children and the children of the Homestead preschool. The height of the fence will be slightly over 4'--approximately 51"-- because we would like a 3" gap between the ground and the bottom railing.  There will be two steel gates:  one 4’ and one 16’.  These gates will have an arched scroll design.

Representatives from Cornerstone will come to All Saints early next week to begin collecting data on the exact location and measurement of the perimeter of the fence and gates.  Posts will soon follow.  The panels should arrive at Cornerstone within two weeks--sometime during the end of the first week of August.  The panels will be installed shortly thereafter.

The fence is being paid for from four sources:  Homestead Preschool, the Gruggen Fund, the Memorial Fund, and the Endowment Fund.
A lot of time and energy went into making this project happen and I’d like to thank the fence committee members, the executive committee, the finance committee, the endowment committee, and the Vestry for their consideration and idea-contributions.

Our Tuesday morning Bible study group will resume meeting in Parish Hall this fall.  We will be welcoming a new leader of this open-ended group, grateful for Pat tenBroeke's faithful service as its leader over the last 10 years.

I am pleased to announce that Rev. Liz Powers has agreed to be the new leader of this group that includes discussion of scripture, intercessory prayer and a card ministry.  All interested persons are welcome to participate from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m.  weekly.

Cursillo is a ministry in the Episcopal Church that helps Christians to deeply experience both the love of God and love of one another. A Cursillo weekend brings together a diverse group of participants and team members for three days of listening, learning, singing, praying, sharing, eating, and laughing. What is experienced on the weekend then serves as a springboard to a life of ongoing spiritual development, in the company of others, and as an inspiration for a life of reaching out to the world with the love of Jesus Christ.

Learn more about Cursillo and how you can participate in the upcoming weekend, July 27-30.

For more information, see www.oregon-cursillo.org. Next Cursillo is a Co-Ed (both Men and Women) from Thursday, July 27 – Sunday, July 30,2017, to be held at Oregon Christian Convention Center in Turner, just outside Salem. If you would like to attend, contact your clergy for more information, or email oregoncursillo@gmail.com.
