The Rev. Kathleen Borsch, Deacon
Dr. James Denman, Director of Music
Cristina Breshears, Administrative Assistant

Almighty and everlasting God, you govern all things both in heaven and on earth: Mercifully hear the supplications of your people, and in our time grant us your peace; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.
All Saints will have one combined Farewell Service at 10:15 a.m. this Sunday, January 28. A retirement reception for Mother Laura will  be held in the Parish Hall immediately after the service. Please join us as we bid farewell and wish Mother Laura all the best on her next chapter.
From our Senior Warden:

As we say our heartfelt goodbyes to Mother Laura, I want you to know what lies ahead for our dear parish.  In this year of transition, there are diocesan protocols to guide us, challenges to work through, and a new future to look forward to.  We can, together, make this a memorable journey with support, respect, and continued fellowship.

The Vestry appointed the Search Committee at our last meeting.  The members were announced at the Annual Meeting and are:  Chris Broderick, Nancy Carr, Jim Denman, Steve Dieterich, John Keiter, Laurie McDowell, and Deb Miller.  We will be convening shortly after February 1 to begin our search.

Revs Deborah and Liz have graciously stepped forward to preside and preach for three Sundays in February and Ash Wednesday.  Canon Neysa Ellgren-Shepley will serve on February 18.

I have asked the Diocese to help us get an interim priest by March 1 and a new rector by November. I’m not sure if they can pull it off, but we will work on those dates.  Wouldn’t it be wonderful to have our new someone by All Saints Day?

Please continue to check the E-news for updates on our transition.

On the Sundays of February 4th and 11th, the Adult Forum will feature the DVD "Sermon on the Mount" and "Hollywood vs. Faith: The Three Other Beatitudes," translated and performed by Frank Runyeon.

Acclaimed by critics, scholars, andover 1000 Catholic and Protestant churches to date, Frank Runyeon performs ecumenical one-man plays of scripture -- and speaks with humor about his years in Hollywood -- in over 40 states a year.

Best known for starring opposite Meg Ryan on CBS, Frank left Hollywood in the 90's to attend seminary. He now hopes to help his audience:
  • rediscover the power of the central stories of Scripture, and
  • laugh (good-naturedly) at the way the media portray the world.
During Lent, plans are in the works for a 5-session course on the Return of the Prodigal Son!

William Temple House:

Only one month after we took a full pickup truckload of your donated food items to William Temple House, the big blue barrel was once again overflowing!  On January 12th, they came and picked up our donation, filling the entire floor of their van. Many thanks to all who contribute. As we know, "hunger never takes a vacation."

A Prayer for Special Guidance
Almighty Lord, source of all knowledge and loving kindness, bring your grace upon the  All Saint’s Search Committee as we discern the needs of our parish in finding a new priest to serve as our Spiritual guide. Give us ears to hear, open hearts to feel, and clarity of vision so we might see your light. Shine your light upon us and grant us courage to move forward for your Honor and Glory. Let us all work together in your spirit of love for all who make up our All Saints’ community. We ask this For His Sake, our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. Amen

Girardian Glossary of Terms (as defined by Abbot Andrew Marr, OSB in "Moving and Resting in God's Desire: a Theology of Peace")

  • Contagion: In medicine, the spreading of diseases through human contact or from germs travelling in the air. For Girard, an apt description of the workings of mimetic desire, particularly in its violent forms. Violence can easily spread through a society exactly the way a plague does. Contagion can work the other way. In an oral presentation, I heard Gil Bailie refer to Christianity as a "virus" that can spread in a society, like leavening in a batch of bread. (Mt. 13:33)
  • Creation:  Theologically, refers to God bringing the universe into being. It can refer to God's continuing nurturing of the world.

We invite you to take a look at our website often, not only to see how it is updated, but because when you do, our website will come up at the top when people are looking for a church.  It is based on how many "hits" or visits a website gets, the frequency of interest in the site. Jerry puts a lot of work into our website and it is beautiful. Check it out here!
