New Administrative Assistant Has Arrived!

I am happy to announce that Ms. Irene Weldon, mezzo-soprano soloist with the Bach Cantata Choir, piano teacher, and voice teacher at Warner Pacific College, has been selected as our new Administrative Assistant. Portland-born, Irene has two lovely daughters, Alicia & Rachel, and a grandson, Lucien.  She earned her M.S.T. from PSU, served in the office at St. Michael and All Angels, sang in the Trinity Choir and has also worked as a library clerk.  Irene begins work this week in our church office and has already met our staff.
We are delighted to welcome her, and feel very fortunate to have her serve among us. Special thanks to our excellent interviewing team:  Jim Denman, Kathy Martin, Jen Schafer, Sue Hiscoe, and Jerry Meter.

Ad Hoc Committee on Homeless
Our parish has had its’ share of interactions with homeless people on church property. The City of Portland has recommended that we establish a firm policy, both pro-active and re-active to handle this issue.

Thank you to those who volunteered to serve on this committee to draft such a policy: Amelia Brooks, Judy Clarke, and our two Wardens. If you are interested in participating, please contact Chuck Martin, Senior Warden.

Wednesday, June 24, Episcopal Church Women (ECW) will meet in the Parish Hall. We invite you to participate in a potluck, so bring your favorite dish to share. If you are unable to bring a dish or something else of your choice, please join us in good cheer and conversation. Potluck starts at 6:00 p.m., and meeting starts at 7:00 p.m.
In Sympathy

Karolyn Christi, longtime member of our parish, died peacefully on Tuesday night, June 9, at her residence in Miramont Point in Clackamas.  A memorial service is being planned for Friday, July 24, at 3:00 p.m. at All Saints Episcopal Church. A reception in Parish Hall will follow. All are welcome to attend.

Ted Jackson, husband of Bev Jackson, died peacefully at the age of 93, on Thursday, June 17 at his home.  No church service is planned.

May their souls, and the souls of all the departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace.

ECUSA General Convention

The General Convention of the Episcopal Church will take place in Salt Lake City, Utah from Thursday, June 25th through Friday, July 7th.

Beginning on June 22 and running through the day of adjournment, July 3, this Facebook group will be praying for all members of the House of Bishops, House of Deputies, staff, volunteers, consultants, and visitors who will be involved in the hard work of the Episcopal Church in convention.

This is a group where all are welcome–it has no political agenda and political statements aren’t encouraged.  The group is a neutral space for praying in the tradition of the via media, calling upon the Holy Spirit to lead our prayers and our Church into God’s best hopes for us.

Each day there will be two postings–morning and evening–of prayers for guidance, protection, mercy, thanksgiving, or peace that may be prayed for convention.

We welcome Aulani Johnson as a new member of the All Saints Altar Guild.  He will work with Larry Chalew-Fuller, Director, on the 4th Sundays.

Our Liturgical Art - Did you Know?

For 21 years Ardis Weir and Jeanne Crichlow have created our beautiful banners.  Work on the next Palm Sunday banner has already begun!  Suzanne Batman has made the many quilted seasonal frontals and paraments.

The St. Clare Order of the Daughters of the King® is going to be on summer hiatus all of July and August. We will begin meeting again on Thursday, September 3, 2015, in the Guild Room at 11:00 a.m. However, the Prayer Request list will still be prepared weekly during our summer break. If someone you love or know is in need of prayers, please pick up a blue Prayer Request card and fill it out and put it in the Prayer Box in the Narthex.

We do not take a vacation from praying ever.
How can a change of one or two degrees in global average temperatures have an impact on our lives?
Changing the average global temperature by even a degree or two can lead to serious consequences around the globe. For about every 2°F of warming, we can expect to see
•    5—15% reductions in the yields of crops as currently grown
•    3—10% increases in the amount of rain falling during the heaviest precipitation events, which can increase flooding risks
•    5—10% decreases in stream flow in some river basins, including the Arkansas and the Rio Grande
•    200%—400% increases in the area burned by wildfire in parts of the western United States Global average temperatures have increased more than 1.4 degrees Fahrenheit over the last 100 years. Many of the extreme precipitation and heat events that we have seen in recent years are consistent with what we would expect given this amount of warming.  Scientists project that Earth's average temperatures will rise between 2 and 12 degrees Fahrenheit by 2100. Featured FAQs; frequently asked questions about Episcopal Church teachings, terminology, and traditions.

General Convention: National legislative assembly of the Episcopal Church that meets every three years to set church-wide policy and budget.  Deputies to the convention sit in two legislative bodies, the House of Bishops (chaired by the Presiding Bishop) and the House of Deputies (chaired by its president).  All bishops of the church, including retired bishops, sit in the House of Bishops.  Deputies to the House of Deputies (four clergy and four lay people from each diocese) are elected at their respective diocesan conventions.  Any action requires the approval of both houses to be passed;  measures may originate in either house except for the election of the Presiding Bishop, which takes place in the House of Bishops and only needs the concurrence of the House of Deputies.
