Dr. James Denman, Director of Music
O God, whose blessed Son made himself known to his disciples in the breaking of bread: Open the eyes of our faith, that we may behold him in all his redeeming work; who lives and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.
Springtime at All Saints!
All Saints Earth Day Spring Clean-Up a Big Success!
Even with rain, wind and cold (for Portland!) a dozen members of All Saints turned out on Earth Day April 22nd to clean up and beautify our church property, inside and out!  Grateful thanks to Chris Broderick, Nancy Carr, Steve Dietrich, Mary Earl and Phagan, Matt Johnston, Kathy Martin, Laurie and Steve McDowell, David Miller, Deb Miller, Joe Marlia and Greg Palanluk who mowed, planted, trimmed, weeded and hung towel dispensers.  And thanks to Joe Marlia for donating the new towel holders. What a team!

A Drive for Reading glasses and Sunglasses!

"This is an opportunity to take positive action, a way we can participate in the global neighborhood."
Laurie McDowell, Senior Warden.

Last minute drive for reading glasses and sunglasses, and girls'/womens' underwear (girls' 10-14 sizes or womens' smaller sizes- prefer colored)

My son and I are going on a medical trip to Haiti- leaving April 28th (need donations by Thurs 4/27)
I will be doing surgeries and clinics. He and other teen observers help distribute glasses, vitamins etc.
We are also making 'Days for Girls' menstrual kits, and need underwear for those.

Update from March 2017 Minutes

Emergency Response
: Jacob Mathai briefed the Vestry on a meeting to discuss response to emergencies such as earthquakes or fires. His group is developing a plan and safety protocols for communication, evacuation and procedures. The goal is to have a plan in place prior to the opening of the preschool that will operate later this year at All Saints.

Rector Search: Laurie McDowell said the Vestry will discuss the first step of forming a rector Profile Committee at the April meeting, and Canon Ellgren of the Diocese will meet with the Vestry on May 16th to discuss procedures and timelines for the search for a new rector to succeed Mother Laura.

Emerging Kenya Church Gathering Here

I have met with Pastor Isaac Kangara, a very qualified pastor and seminary graduate with a non-denominational Christian background. He has met the Vestry and he has submitted the proper credentials and organizational papers.  Rev. Isaac, who came to the United States 8 years ago recently moved from Texas to Oregon to plant a new Kenyan non-denominational congregation called Fountain Gateway Church.

He and his wife Mary hope to gather together the Kenyan people in the Portland/Vancouver area in our facility.  They will be meeting in the near future in the Chapel on Sunday afternoons with fellowship following in Parish Hall. Our Vestry has agreed to support their proposal and a contract is being worked out with our Building use Manager, Chuck Martin.

They would start with prayer meetings, seeking to gather the disparate Kenyan community of immigrants.  Christianity has taken a real hold in African countries; many arriving here have a vibrant faith in Christ. This is our opportunity to welcome immigrants and a new plant Christian church.  This is the fulfillment of another vision All Saints has held for years.

Mother Laura

Congratulations to new parents, April and Sean Hall on the birth of their baby son, Easton Peter, on Sunday night, April 23 at Meridian Park Hospital, weighing 6 pounds 9 ounces and measuring 19" long. His big sisters are Phalyn and Payton, and his proud grandmother is Mary Earl.  Congratulations on the new arrival!

This note was sent to Mother Laura with someone's feelings about coming to worship:

"Sunday mornings are very important to me.  I used to have a series of jobs in which I missed worship every other weekend.  I found missing church to be like a handicap."

The Prayer Shawl Ministry welcomes two new members:
Michelle Waite and Rev. Liz Powers.
Over the Hill Gang Breakfast

Senior men from our parish gather at Beez Holgate Station for a great breakfast and conversation monthly on the third Thursday of each month at 9:00 a.m.  You are welcome to join them there!

Eastmoreland Garage Sale:

The following items have been found to sell well: easily moved furniture that is clean, in usable, salable condition, 1950’s furniture and decorations are very desirable, toys, games, everyday dishware, kitchen utensils, vases, small portable appliances, outdoor furniture good condition, picture frames, tools, garden tools, prints, posters, paintings, holiday decorations, costume jewelry, working lamps, good condition children’s books, books, CDs and DVDs.

If in doubt ask one of the members of the fundraising committee, we have sold large difficult to move items via Craig's list: Chris M, Nancy Carr, & Sonja

Outreach Opportunities

You will find newly updated All Saints Brochures and Neighborhood Flyers on the entryway table in the narthex for your taking.  Please take a look at the careful work done by Cris Breshears, Nancy Carr, Jack Stephenson-Carr and Kathy Martin.  These are excellent tools to give visitors, or for inviting people interested in coming to All Saints.  Please check them out, and feel free to take some to give or to post.  More can easily be reproduced.  Thank you!  Mother Laura
