RRI education to strengthen the relationship between science and society

Why is RRI training in higher education institutions necessary to strengthen the relationship between science and society?

 

Educating today’s students, who are members of society and future researchers, is critical for developing a responsible voice of tomorrow. An education beyond the technical core of the subjects is necessary to engage students as committed, active, thinking citizens in the development of our societies.

Building bridges in RRI education

Many initiatives around Europe deal with the concept of RRI and education. HEIRRI and EnRRICH projects focus their efforts to develop a responsible voice in Higher Education.

HEIRRI consortium meets in Bergen: moving forward!
The meeting included a ‘walkshop’, an approach promoted by UiB that consists in engaging in discussions while walking with colleagues and students in open outdoor spaces.

The 1st Conference on Social Impact of Science SIS2016 was held on 25-29th July in Barcelona, with more than 500 participants from all over the world.

HEIRRI was presented together with other initiatives, such as ‘Relationship between the inclusive center profile and academic performance of primary schools in Catalonia’ and ‘The impact of some initiatives based on the STEM methodology and designed to bring science and technology closer to secondary school students’.

'Perspective of RRI application in education and training' at the
ISEKI Food Conference

Viena,6-8th July 2016

HEIRRI was present at the session ‘Responsible Research and Innovation in the food industry: state of the art and perspectives’.

Preliminary findings under the title ‘Perspective of RRI application in education and training‘ (download the abstract of the talk here) were presented. The session was shared with other case studies and best practices aimed to develop new interfaces between education, research and industry to implement RRI in the food production chain and to contribute to the development of a sustainable society will be presented and discussed.
