NATIONAL DEWAN E-BLAST #44                               December 2014
BAPAK QUOTE
Maybe you would like to ask Bapak, "What is an Angel?" Later you will know. If you go on with the latihan you will find out. . . .

It is the angels who are the organizers of everything that God has created. And little by little you will learn to see them. Maybe you have the experience sometimes of seeing a flash of light from the corner of your eye: that is the movement of an angel. It is like a small lightning flash. Of course, the devils can also do that, but the color is different: the devils have a reddish color when they move. 84 CDK 11

DO YOU BUY PRODUCTS THROUGH AMAZON?
If you buy products online through Amazon, you can help Subud USA. Instead of the usual amazon.com URL, you would need to use the one for AmazonSmile: smile.amazon.com The shopping experience is identical to Amazon.com, the same merchandise at the same cost, with the added benefit that the AmazonSmile Foundation will donate 0.5% of your purchase price to the charitable organization you select. When first visiting AmazonSmile, you are prompted to select a charitable organization from their list. Please select Subud United States of America.
Then proceed to make your purchase from this new site. Other options are to click on the URL on the Subud USA website (http://smile.amazon.com/ch/95-2572582); Subud USA is already selected. Or you could go to the Subud USA website (www.subudusa.org); AmazonSmile is on the very top right hand side. Thank you.
SUBUD USA ANNUAL FUND DRIVE UPDATE From Laksar Reese
At this time, Subud USA has raised close to $22,000 in cash donations and another $18,000 in pledges. Thank you to all who have donated. Our target budget for 2015 is $90,000 from individuals, which means roughly $50,000 more needs to be raised directly from the membership. Donate or pledge what you can to support helper/committee travel, redo the website, support Zone 7 and the World Subud Association, and more.

The national dewan received strongly that both helpers and committee should travel more and be in closer contact with the members. Therefore, we are trying to increase the helper travel budget from $20,000 to $30,000. One member pledged $5000 in matching funds for helper travel; so far, we have matched this with $2000 in donations. You can earmark your donation "helper travel" to support this matching fund.  We invite you to donate/pledge via Paypal or Neon at http://www.subudusa.org/topNav/MembersPage/Members.aspx

NATIONAL DEWAN NEWS
SUBUD USA NATIONAL DEWAN MEETING IN SEATTLE
The Subud USA national committee and helpers met together in Seattle at the Spring Street Center over the weekend of November 21-23. One purpose of the meeting was to strengthen working relationships which all felt were good to begin with. Testing and sharing, having meals together, all helped to strengthen the bond. Another purpose was to ensure that the efforts of each side of the dewan were aligned  and integrated. Several issues and topics require both helper and committee input. One surprising outcome of the testing on priorities was that, while it is very important for the national helpers to travel, this was also important for the national committee in order to stay close to the membership and provide support to both kejiwaan and organizational sides of the organization.

SUBUD CALIFORNIA NEWS
(1) In an effort to help CA members feel more connected while at the same time better meet the needs of the region, the regional councilors created the "Make the Connection" drive. That means: come to latihan, plan a potluck, join a work party, give financially in any way, a little or a lot. (2) After being inspired by a daylong Visioning Workshop led by Leo Horthy (Subud Badger), Subud Sonoma is moving forward with an ambitious plan to rejuvenate their Subud building and their finances. They received a $45,000 loan from the region based on acquiring a major new tenant.
(3) The new dewan of regional helpers plans to visit each group in CA, to participate in latihan events accessible to local and regional members and to host a weekly regional latihan on Saturdays at 10:15 for 10:30.

MOUNTAINS AND RIVERS: SICA FILM ABOUT THE WORLD CONGRESS
Earlier this year, SICA International realized the richness of its program offerings at the World Congress and asked Heinz Cadera and Benoit Erwaan Boucherot to make a film of it. SICA's funds ensured that the film team got to Puebla, had a place to stay and food to eat while there. The hours of filming and editing was their gift to all of us. The film, Mountains and Rivers, is free to all brothers and sisters who may wish to view it.  Click on the title, then write in the following case-sensitive password: Puebla
POEM: I AM SUSILA DHARMA
At the World Congress in Puebla, Mexico, during the Susila Dharma Gala Evening, SD volunteers and project leaders shared personal stories about the work they do. They closed each one with the words "I am Susila Dharma!" Hadrian Pollard, Subud Chicgo, captured the feelings and energy of this evening in a poem calling us to action. You can hear Hadrian's poem on the SDI website.
SUSILA DHARMA USA REQUEST
While most of us in the USA enjoyed abundant Thanksgiving tables, many around the world had no such full plates, only the grim despair of hunger and poverty. With a year-end gift to Susila Dharma USA, you can help bring hope to those around the world who benefit from SDUSA’s charitable projects, including:
  • The Q Fund: educates children in Africa, many of them orphans of the AIDS epidemic (see photo above);
  • PUEBLO:employs at-risk youth in Oakland, CA in urban community agriculture;
  • YUM: created an organic strawberry farm to support community projects in Indonesia.
Won't you help us continue this important work by donating $25, $50, $100 -- or whatever you can afford? We simply can’t do it without you.  Your support will make a real, lasting impact in the lives of those who are still in need.
With gratitude, Evan Padilla, Chair & the Board of SD USA

100 DAYS AFTER PUEBLA CONGRESS: FIRST NEW TREASURES ARRIVED
From Report by the WSA Treasurer, Hilaria Dette
Since her Treasure Quest letter, sent in October, Hilaria has received moral support and signs of joy and prayers. In 2014 there were already a number of fantastic donations, for example US$ 100,000 from an enterprise. US$ 85,000 was just received during the Thanksgiving week. In addition, the youth raised about US$ 54,000 for the International Youth Travel Fund. For the current budget, it looks like most countries have already sent or will be sending their pledged contributions. Expected is another US$ 38,000. If the outstanding country contributions as well as some more individual donations are received, WSA will achieve its aim of a balanced budget for the year. This would enable WSA to top up the World Congress Reserve Fund to its original level of US$ 150,000. Keep the treasures coming; any contributions, large or small, will be very much appreciated! (Send to Subud USA National Office, address above, earmarked WSA.)
