Toronto Pig Save's News Update
Dear friends,

Don’t turn away. Join us! Bear witness at our weekly vigils.
(Please scroll down for vigil schedule.)

2019 Women's March From Fearman's Slaughterhouse
May 12, 9 am – 2 pm. RSVP: event page
We will start the day with a vigil for the pigs. After bearing witness and leaving flowers and messages for the babies trapped inside the slaughterhouse, we will start marching to a park in downtown Burlington. We are marching to show our solidarity to the nonhuman females that have been oppressed by the patriarchy.
In Part II of this workshop series, we will apply our research model to another corporate target. It is not necessary to have attended Part I of this workshop series, and encourage anyone who DID to bring a friend this time!
What is a campaign? How can strategic corporate campaigns get us closer to animal liberation?
How can you help the animal liberation movement from a computer?

How Cargill, Bunge, and other animal feed companies are destroying forests in the Amazon and elsewhere:
Brazil ports, Cargill seek lower Panama Canal fees
"SAO PAULO (Reuters) – Brazilian port operators including units of global grain traders Cargill Ltd. and Bunge Ltd. will unveil a proposal this week to lower Panama Canal tariffs and cut their costs in shipping agricultural commodities to their main market China."

China increasingly involved in Brazil’s ambitious Amazon rail network

"Surprisingly few railroads have been built in Amazonia. Most famous is the catastrophic Madeira-Mamoré railway, built between 1907-1912 to link Porto Velho to Guajará-Mirim in western Brazil."
Ontario activists including Toronto Cow Save and Toronto Pig Save held a memorial on April 5 for the cows who suffered the crash of their transport truck on the 401 highway. Organizer Nesha wrote: "In honour of those gentle cows who had to endure the truck crash a week ago, injured and terrified for hours on the highway only to be put back on another truck and sent to slaughter."
Please watch: Toronto Cow Save bear witness to scared cows on multiple trucks nearly simultneously.
Calgary Cow Save bore witness to these sad cows at Aggie Days - an adjunct to the infamous Calgary Stampede. Aggie Days invite people to "come and see real farm animals and learn where your food comes from."
But the truth remains hidden, as Calgary Cow Save report: "Welcome to Aggie days. Where the suffering of mothers is put on display for all to mock. Where children are indoctrinated into believing that animals are here to serve us."
Please watch and share Toronto Pig Save's video "Like all mothers": We know that pigs are sentient, intelligent, family oriented beings who love and care for their young. Yet we continue to torture them and murder them and then consume them by the millions. Go vegan and get involved. Bear Witness with us on Wednesdays 7:30 - 09:30 am at Fearmans "Pork" Inc., 821 Appleby Burlington (near Appleby GO train station).

Weekly vigils and outreach with Toronto-area Saves
Toronto Pig Save has a firm commitment to hold at least three vigils or other vegan outreach events per week. We currently hold a Pig Save vigil in Burlington together with Cow Save, Fish Save and Chicken Save vigils in Toronto, as well as Fur Animal Save events in the colder months. We encourage everyone to attend a vigil.
The more people who attend, the harder it is for society to ignore our protests of the abhorrent exploitation and cruelty to animals. Attending vigils is a daunting, traumatic, but empowering experience that helps build community and a support network of like-minded activists. Please join us. Scroll down for vigil schedule.

Leo Tolstoy defines the duty to bear witness as: "When the suffering of another creature causes you to feel pain, do not submit to the initial desire to flee from the suffering one, but on the contrary, come closer, as close as you can to him who suffers, and try to help him."

Please consider becoming a Pig Saver, join Toronto Pig Save's Monthly Donor program or give a special, one-time gift.

Toronto Pig Save started in December 2010, with a promise to the pigs of doing a minimum of three vigils and vegan outreach events each week, all year round. We bear witness as a community of pigs, cows, chickens and other farmed animal victims in slaughterhouse trucks. The animals want us to be present and, with the most pleading eyes, ask for our help when we see them through the portholes of transport trucks. Just as if we were in those horrid trucks, we would want the whole community to be there fighting for our freedom, liberation, rights, and equality. In a way, we are there. All life is one and, “when (wo)men wish to harm others, they really do evil to themselves,” Leo Tolstoy said in his animal rights story “Esarhaddon, King of Assyria”. It’s our positive duty and obligation to act in the present to try to stop the most egregious injustices before us.
"When the suffering of another creature causes you to feel pain, do not submit to the initial desire to flee from the suffering one, but on the contrary, come closer, as close as you can to her who suffers, and try to help her.” – Leo Tolstoy
In seven years, The Save Movement has grown to over 660 Save groups in 70 countries around the world. Our dream is to have regular vigils at every slaughter plant worldwide. We regularly give seed money to new Save groups and require funds for literature, posters, subway ad campaigns ( and vegan outreach events.
Make animal liberation your priority in life! Think of 10 kind things you can do each day and encourage your friends to do the same! Join us and participate in our weekly vigils, start a Save group in your community, and be a regular donor.
