Lily the Mother Goat
Hi, I'm Lily the Mother Goat. Please follow/like my Instagram and Facebook pages.
Lily The Mother Goat passed into the next world on August 1. She lived three years and five months at Anthea Larke’s house as a house goat. Lily had previously been exploited for her milk in the goat dairy industry (her babies taken away and killed) and when she was discarded at the slaughterhouse she had trouble keeping on her weight. Lily was rescued from a kill pen in March 2016 from the Milton Halal slaughterhouse by Toronto Pig Save activists after they attended a pre-trial course session for the Pig Trial.
This is how The Toronto Star reported on Lily's rescue and her life back in 2016: "Lily the goat escaped slaughter last week. According to an account prepared later by one of the activists, Jenny McQueen, they saw the usual slaughterhouse horrors — terrified livestock being prodded into the killing room, bloody carcasses swinging from hooks.
But they also saw a shivering nanny goat waiting to be killed. And they asked that she be spared. To their delight, the manager agreed. He handed over the goat. He even named her Lily."
Here Lily's kissing Mishel the dog. This was in June during a visit with our friends from Extinction Rebellion Toronto, Extinction Rebellion and Climate Save Movement.
Lily was always very social and loving.
“Today I know that Lily is free of pain and suffering. Also am no longer angry with the people who abused her body to the point that it compromised her health long term. Today i feel sorry for them. They had Lily in their lives for much longer than we did, but they were too blind to see her, their hearts too closed to experience who she was, her kindness, gentleness and strength. I know so many of these people who see Lily and others as ‘just a goat ‘. They miss out on so much love.” - Anthea Larke
Thank you Anthea and Susie Coston for your care and advice when we needed it most 🐐💕
Please go vegan and stand up for animal liberation. Plant an apple tree in memory of Lily and share the apples with our animal friends!

Activists enter Fearmans slaughterhouse to give water to pigs suffering in extreme heat
Toronto Pig Save held an emergency vigil for the pigs on Friday July 19, the hottest day of the year so far. Activists rushed into Fearmans slaughterhouse in the midst of a massive heatwave. Upon arrival, the activists found dehydrated and exhausted pigs inside idling transport trucks and were there to bear witness to their suffering and offer water to the desperate pigs. They also found a child being ordered to electrocute pigs off of the truck and into the slaughterhouse.

Watch: Activists rush in to give the pigs water.
Watch:  Slaughter plant employees attacked activists as they tried to bear witness inside.

Leo Tolstoy defines the duty to bear witness as: "When the suffering of another creature causes you to feel pain, do not submit to the initial desire to flee from the suffering one, but on the contrary, come closer, as close as you can to him who suffers, and try to help him."

Bee Save Movement has been launched as part of Climate Save Movement, with the goal of protecting some of the smallest beings we share this planet with and help solve the climate crisis by helping the bees survive. Animal agriculture is a key source of pesticides, which are one of the main reasons bees are going extinct. Honey is another industry that is harming the bees at a mass scale. Veganism is a critical part of important actions for the bees and our future.

Don't Eat The Amazon! August 8, worldwide
RSVP: event page
Please join us on 8/8 (August 8) to raise awareness of the worst deforestation on record this past May 2019. The Brazilian government in conjunction with animal feed companies is turning the Amazon rainforests into meat burgers. Global actions will take place with marches and protests to Brazilian Embassies, fast food restaurants and chalking in public spaces. A list of events is coming soon. If you'd like to join in, look for your local Climate Save group or if you don't have one, contact us about joining.

Maple Leaf Foods: Poised To Profit from the Plant-Based Protein Shift
This article by explains how MAple Leaf "Foods" stands to gain from their investments in plant-based food products: Maple Leaf Foods: Poised To Profit from the Plant-Based Protein Shift
"Unlike BYND, which is relying on manufacturers, which it does not even have formal manufacturing agreements with, MLFNF will not only have its own manufacturing facilities but also will have the largest in North America. MLFNF's plant-based facility will be a $310 million plant that will be located in Shelbyville, Indiana and will be operational by late 2020."
Given this assessment, our position is clear: Maple Leaf should abandon all efforts to expand their animal exploitation business and instead shift completely to plant-based products.

The Guardian: Bolsonaro declares 'the Amazon is ours' and calls deforestation data 'lies'
Far-right president said Brazil is open to partnerships exploiting biodiversity and mining in a conversation with journalists.
He even questioned recent satellite data from the government’s National Space Research Institute (INPE) that indicated a dramatic rise in deforestation in May and June. “I am convinced the data is a lie. We are going to call the president of INPE here to talk about this and that’s the end of that issue,” he said.

Fortunately, plant-based alternatives have grown tremendously: Plant-based milks on the rise: A quarter of Britons are drinking them

According to this new study by Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health: Following a healthy plant-based diet may lower type 2 diabetes risk, “Plant-based dietary patterns are gaining popularity in recent years, so we thought it was crucial to quantify their overall association with diabetes risk, particularly since these diets can vary substantially in terms of their food composition,” said first author Frank Qian, who conducted the research as a masters student in the Department of Nutrition.

Montevideo Animal Save organizer Vanessa shares why she bears witness: ""I attend vigils from the beginning, in 2017, when no one understood what we were doing or what we would face. I was already a vegan and I was an activist since before. I already knew the importance of anti-speciesism and could explain it in detail why talking about justice necessarily included veganism. I understood everything, or at least that was what I believed, until I faced a truck. It was the truck, at least 35 cows and me. The situation hit me like a wave of cold water on my face and it squeezed my heart. I knew a lot, but in the eyes of those animals I did not know anything. I felt the greatest sadness, but I also learned to feel something in a deeper way: love."

But last night we were met with a driver that was more than willing to let us have the full 5 mins with the pigs. As he happily conversed with us, it was a strong reminder of the disconnect this man had with the animals he was transporting."

Atlanta Animal Save report from their July 13 vigil: "Today we went to a chicken vigil at Tip Top 'Poultry'. Thank you everyone who came out! The manager of the facility came out and took some of our literature! Next time we’ll ask him if he’ll help us stop a truck for us."
