Why bear witness?
Thank you Amar Shah for bearing witness with Toronto Cow Save and taking the next step to compassion and deciding to become vegan. Go vegan and get involved! Join us at our weekly morning vigils, Tuesdays for the Cows and Lambs 9:30 am-12 pm at St. Helen's "Meat" Packers slaughter plant at 1 Glen Scarlett Road.
St. John's Farm Animal Save report from their chicken vigil on February 1 at Country Ribbon slaughter plant.
"It was so cold! We can only imagine the suffering of the chickens being transported over the highway, only to be brutally slaughtered. We had no chance to see them, as the truth is fervently hidden here, but we witnessed the atrocity, and hope we made an impact on the public who saw us take a stand."
KW Animal Save report from their February 4 vigil at Conestoga 'Meat' Packers:
"We had a visit from a manager and a police officer after one disgruntled driver sped by us. The police did not seem to be concerned about our asking the trucks to stop for two minutes. We will continue to have a presence at this slaughterhouse and bear witness to the pigs who are killed here."
Tri-Cities Animal Save is holding weekly vigils during rush hour, on a really busy street in Coquitlam, British Columbia, a block away from the Lilydale chicken slaughter plant. "Our goal is to start with these vigils to bring awareness to the general public in the area."
Weekly vigils and outreach with Toronto-area Saves
Toronto Pig Save has a firm commitment to hold at least three vigils or other vegan outreach events per week. We currently hold a Pig Save vigil in Burlington together with Cow Save, Fish Save and Chicken Save vigils in Toronto, as well as Fur Animal Save events in the colder months. We encourage everyone
to attend a vigil. The more people who attend, the harder it is for society to ignore our protests of the abhorrent exploitation and cruelty to animals. Attending vigils is a daunting, traumatic, but empowering experience. Please join us. Scroll down for vigil schedule.

Leo Tolstoy defines the duty to bear witness as: "When the suffering of another creature causes you to feel pain, do not submit to the initial desire to flee from the suffering one, but on the contrary, come closer, as close as you can to him who suffers, and try to help him."

Obesity, climate change and hunger must be fought as one, health experts declare
"In a treatise published in the British medical journal Lancet, a multinational commission argues that consumers, business leaders and policymakers must focus their efforts on steps that address at least two of these crises at a time. Only then can they can resolve this trio of emergencies fast and fully enough to make a difference, they wrote."

Bearing Witness Around the World

Shanghai Animal Save report from their visit to a market where they reached out on behalf of the pigs:
"It is  the Chinese Year of the Pig. Happy new year to everyone :) Shanghai Pig Save team visited a market in Shanghai. Volunteers held posters to tell people 'it is the Year of the Pig, we want to get together with families as humans' and "it is the Year of the Pig, please do not eat us."
Pune Animal Save bore witness at the Shivaji market. Watch as live animals are held right under the chopped up bodies of their siblings.
Adelaide Animal Save report from their visit to the farm industry show:
"Inside the petting zoo at the Royal Adelaide Show was a pen with a sow and her piglets. Above their pen was a board with facts about pigs but what they managed to leave out is how the sow was artificially impregnated, how her babies had their teeth and tails cut at birth without any anaesthetic or how she will be sent to slaughter when she is no longer profitable."

Torhout Animal Save bore witness to the pigs during their first vigil on February 5 outside the Vanhoornweder en zoon slaughter plant. Please watch video by Activism on the Road, our Save organizing tour.

Örebro Animal Save held their first vigil on February 6 at the Närkes slaughter plant. They report:
"'A smaller slaughterhouse with a big heart for the animals,' according to their website. It says quite a lot about how deeply speciesism is rooted in our society and how normalized the killing of animals is when you come up with something like that."
Groningen Animal Save held their first vigil on February 7 at the Kroon Vlees slaughter plant. They report:
"We received media coverage, a lot of support from people passing by
and there was so much support, love and compassion within the group. The animals need more people like you who are willing to sacrifice their own comfort to fight for what is right."
Ayrshire Animal Save held a vigil for the cows at Highland 'Meats' on February 4. They report: "We cannot stop the trucks due to it being a public road and causes obstruction but we take this as a brilliant opportunity for roadside demo and outreach."

Donate Today!

Please consider becoming a Pig Saver, join Toronto Pig Save's Monthly Donor program or give a special, one-time gift.

Toronto Pig Save started in December 2010, with a promise to the pigs of doing a minimum of three vigils and vegan outreach events each week, all year round. We bear witness as a community of pigs, cows, chickens and other farmed animal victims in slaughterhouse trucks. The animals want us to be present and, with the most pleading eyes, ask for our help when we see them through the portholes of transport trucks. Just as if we were in those horrid trucks, we would want the whole community to be there fighting for our freedom, liberation, rights, and equality. In a way, we are there. All life is one and, “when (wo)men wish to harm others, they really do evil to themselves,” Leo Tolstoy said in his animal rights story “Esarhaddon, King of Assyria”. It’s our positive duty and obligation to act in the present to try to stop the most egregious injustices before us.
"When the suffering of another creature causes you to feel pain, do not submit to the initial desire to flee from the suffering one, but on the contrary, come closer, as close as you can to her who suffers, and try to help her.” – Leo Tolstoy
In seven years, The Save Movement has grown to over 610 Save groups in 65 countries around the world. Our dream is to have regular vigils at every slaughter plant worldwide. We regularly give seed money to new Save groups and require funds for literature, posters, subway ad campaigns ( and vegan outreach events.
Make animal liberation your priority in life! Think of 10 kind things you can do each day and encourage your friends to do the same! Join us and participate in our weekly vigils, start a Save group in your community, and be a regular donor.
