Big Things are About to Happen

Big things are happening here at the Interior Gas Utility! Every day we come one step closer to bringing affordable and clean energy to your doorstep. Here’s what we’ve been up to:
  • In January, IGU welcomed Pamela Throop to the IGU Board of Directors. Ms. Throop has over 30 years experience in real estate and has served in many leadership positions with the Alaska real estate industry. Welcome, Pam!
  • The Alaska Industrial Development and Export Authority (AIDEA) have narrowed down the gas supply proposals to two. In just a few weeks, the AIDEA Board is scheduled to select the recommended supply and liquefaction vendor. These final contracts will be formulated based on the draft term sheets and brought to the IGU Board for approval.
  • In anticipation of the LNG supply decision,we are conducting design reviews for connecting the distribution systems of IGU and FNG. To focus on this new opportunity, further main line installation in both service areas has been delayed in 2016. More information will be provided as available.
  • The popular Home Energy Rebate program is scheduled to be suspended on March 25. This program has helped homeowners make energy efficient upgrades to their homes, averaging $6,463, since 2008. Applications accepted before March 25 will reserve funds for up to 18 months for energy efficiency upgrades and could potentially help home heating conversions from oil to natural gas. Act now to get on the list by March 25.
  • The FNSB’s woodstove change out program now includes exchanging your solid fuel burning furnace for a natural gas boiler and the use of propane. For more information visit the FNSB's Woodstove Changeout webpage
  • IGU’s Conversions Program Plan has been brought to the Board of Directors. This plan outlines strategies to make converting to natural gas as quick and easy for our customers as possible. Please take our three-minute survey to help us gather information for moderate to low income programs. Your voice is important!
