VBCI at VU Cultural Diversity Week Event on Footscray Park Campus

Victoria University is one of the most culturally diverse universities in Australia. VBCI was proud to represent Chinese culture at the event. In response to the Cultural Diversity Week event, the VBCI teaching team designed the cultural diversity topics for our Chinese language courses and promoted the VU Cultural Diversity Week events in the classes one week before the event. Our students come from different cultural backgrounds. The cultural diversity topics helped them understand the varied cultures of Victoria University.
The VBCI team organized two activities on March 24, including a lantern making workshop and a Guzheng workshop. Our Mandarin teachers Chunxiao and Betty guided students and colleagues to make their own Chinese lanterns with colorful paper. Jasmine, the Guzheng artist from the Australian Guzheng Academy performed several Chinese songs. Some students and colleagues joined in learning the Guzheng with Jasmine.

Qingming Festival (清明节 Qīngmíng Jié)

The Qingming Festival, also called Tomb Sweeping Day or, literally, 'Pure Brightness' Festival in English, is a traditional Chinese festival and an important day for most Chinese people (including the Han Chinese and some of China's 55 other ethnic minorities) to go and sweep tombs and commemorate their ancestors. On this day, tomb-sweeping is one of the most important and popular activities to show respect to ancestors.

It usually falls on April 4 or 5. In 2022, the Qingming Festival falls on April 5. The public holiday in China is from April 3 to April 5, 2022. Read more.
