First Sunday in Lent

10:30 am
In-Person or Online? Here's all the info you need.
In-Person in Our Sanctuary
75 Geddes St, Elora
(corner of Church & Geddes)
We strongly recommend that people wear masks when we're together in our building. Mask wearing is a simple and effective way to care for each other. Especially the most-vulnerable among us. Some will also choose to keep a physical distance from others. We leave it to each person to make the best decisions for themselves and their families.
Online from Your Home

We're broadcasting our worship services live through YouTube. You can join on your computer, tablet, or smartphone. You  don't need to have an account, or even to sign in.

Just click the button below and you'll be able to join in. (We begin broadcasting about 5 minutes before the service begins.)

Join the Worship Broadcast
This takes you to our YouTube channel. You can see current, upcoming, and past livestreams (worship broadcasts). You can also see videos of previous worship services.
If the broadcast interrupts part-way through, we suggest waiting a few minutes. Then try joining the worship again the way you normally do.
This Sunday: Collected in Prayer
We'll be exploring a prayer practice, one which we'll be using throughout Lent. We'll be beginning with a time of reflective prayer, asking and prayer these questions with God:
What am I bringing to celebrate?
What am I bringing to grieve?
What am I bringing to confess?
What hopes am I bringing?
What am I bringing to offer?
What am I looking for?
Focusing on questions like these, we'll offering ourselves as we are to God who welcomes us.
Then together we'll sing an ancient prayer, using this contemporary music setting. Just click below to hear Steve Bell perform "Almighty God."
(Some will recognize that we've done this sort of thing from time to time. Here's a chance to discover more about it.)

The focus Scriptures this week are Psalm 9.7-14 and Psalm 51.1-12.

For the rest of Lent: John 16
We've been snailing through the Gospel of John!! (I know "snail" is not a verb, but I'm going to use it as one anyway!)

John's account of Jesus was my least-favourite of the 4 gospels in the Bible. Much of it confused me. The picture of Jesus we encounter in it didn't grab me. I much preferred getting into Matthew, Mark, and Luke's telling of Jesus' story and significance.

So I realized I needed to do some wrestling with John. And I wanted to pass on what I discover to you.

I started in September 2014 and I'm still going. Yes, that's 7.5 years! Now you see why I call this "snailing!" I've been doing it a chapter at a time, 1-2 a year (there are 22 in all). These sermons were on the old Elora UC website. I hope to get them onto our Hope Springs one, just in case you want to go back and have a look.

This Lent, it's chapter 16! I'll be starting next week. You can preview it here (starting with the last bit of chapter 15).
