Members & Friends,

The 2019-2020 Stewardship Canvass is officially over. Thank you for your generosity! Many thanks to Lynne Curtis who did a fabulous job of chairing the Canvass. Thank you, Maya Jofen for coordinating the successful Canvass dinner. Thank you Patricia Friedman and the Finance Committee who helped oversee the Canvass and budgeting process. Thanks to all the rest of you who helped.

I want to share with you the results of the pledge drive for the 2019-2020 fiscal year:

Originally our Pledge goal as presented in the proposed budget was $126,400.
We recalculated some expenses which lessened the budget to $123,400.
Total amount pledged-$118,406

Shortfall-$4994

The Finance Committee has proposed $3000 in cuts in some of discretionary expenses in the proposed budget bringing the shortfall to $1994. We have almost met our goal! If you are able to make an additional gift, we would so appreciate it.

Our Pastoral Minister, Reverend Jim Morrison, has resigned due to his health. Jim has been on an unpaid sabbatical leave since early April. He is still recovering from complications of his open heart surgery and needs to make his recovery his priority. Please continue to support Jim with your cards and emails.

Reverend Charlie Tyler, who agreed to be our interim pastoral minister during Jim’s sabbatical, is honored to stay in the role of our pastoral minister for the time being. He will serve us for the same amount ($25,000 per year) that we paid Jim Morrison. Charlie does have a full-time job with Hospice of the Lowcountry. We want to be mindful of that. He will do pastoral counseling, be on call for emergencies, work with our committees, and preach once a month. He will officiate at weddings and memorial services and have a role in three out of four Sunday services per month. Charlie is committed to preach once a month at a church in Savannah. Therefore, the $25,000
expense for a pastor will remain in our budget.

Please come to the Congregational Meeting on May 19 to vote on our budget and our board. If you are unable to attend, please give someone your proxy.

In peace & love,
Lynne Nordenberg, Board President
