UUCL Life

Reverend Jim Morrison
Pastoral Minister

A word from Rev. Jim

Greetings to the members and friends of the Unitarian Universalist congregation of the Lowcountry.

I am now in to the fourth week of surgery and post surgery rehabilitation. I anticipate being discharged from and Encompass Bluffton on 3 January. I would then have some outpatient therapy but I anticipate resuming a light schedule sometime around the 10th.

As you can imagine I’ve had a lot of time to think but not much energy to write. So I wanted to send you this brief email to do two things. (1) briefly tell you where I am in the healing process and (2) let you know that I am deeply grateful to the congregation for compassionate care of me. I have kept up with the life of the congregation through board chair Lynne Nordenberg and others who have sent greetings.

I was shocked and saddened as were all of you with the tragic death of Ron Titus. I’m grateful to Pat Jobe and Charlie Tyler For their professional and more importantly their compassionate aid to the family and congregation. In addition the lay people exemplified the tradition of carrying on the work of our congregation.

I am at the disadvantage of not having known Ron for very long. But you don’t have to know Ron for very long before you understand and appreciate the complete human being he is. We all owe a great deal to him and to the Titus family for their contribution to our lives and the life of the Unitarian Universalist congregation of the Lowcountry. May peace continue to bless the family
.

Reflections From Our Minister Emeritus
Rev. Manuel Holland

Dear members and friends,

Our UUCL is much stronger and better because Ron was with us.  Many of us are better persons because we knew him and served with him.  We send our love to his family and his many friends at UUCL.

Love, Manuel and Olive.

Our January 2019 theme is Affirmation:

Affirmation is a positive action, a confirmation that a person or a thing is good. It’s also a gift you are able give to yourself as well as to others. A statement of appreciation can change a day from dull to delightful, and positivity is contagious. Each Sunday we state our affirmation of the things we believe in, confirming our values as Unitarian Universalists. Join us in the New Year on Sundays in January to explore the meaning and significance of “Affirmation” in life.

Music on Malphrus continues in 2019

The Rough and Tumble –
Saturday, January 12, 2019

Formerly from Nashville, The Rough & Tumble now find themselves living full time on the road, in a 16ft camper with an 85 lb puppy named Puddle. If you ask Mallory Graham or Scott Tyler how their lives ended up this way they’ll likely respond, “with careful planning, spreadsheets and shoddy cell phone service.”

On their new album, We Made Ourselves a Home When We Didn’t Know (February 2018), the Americana duo retrace their mileage back to their footsteps and explore the struggle between going home and being home already when there's no other home and everywhere is home.  The R&T know how the tread wears down on the tires when you play 140 shows in year cross-country. They’re willing to stop, should the music run out of them and the road end, but until then, they are likely cross referencing a spreadsheet to play your town.   http://www.theroughandtumble.com/
