Our Co Presidents:  George Kanuck and Laura McFadden

"We are all bound up together in one great bundle of humanity." - Francis Ellen Watkins Harper (1825-1922), civil rights activist, abolitionist and first African American woman to be published in the United States

We are a great bundle of humanity, with the emphasis on great.  All of us are a part of the bundle, and that is what makes us better every day.  Together we offer and accomplish so much for each other, and in turn for ourselves.  This is a gift.

All Services begin at 10:00 a.m.

Our December theme is Understanding:

“Data is not information, information is not knowledge, knowledge is not understanding, understanding is not wisdom.”     Clifford Stoll
“The noblest pleasure is the joy of understanding.” Leonardo da Vinci
“I call him religious who understands the suffering of others.” Mahatma Gandhi

Tune into us for a service in December to discover the many dimensions of understanding – ourselves, others, and the roller-coaster ride that was the year 2020.

 December 27 - The UUCL RE/SJ Committee
"Understanding You.  Understanding Me."

Come and join us for a soulful reflection on a path towards understanding.
Happy New Year!
Our first 2021 theme will be "Awe"

January: Awe
“One cannot help but be in awe when he contemplates the mysteries of eternity, of life, of the marvelous structure of reality. It is enough if one tries merely to comprehend a little of this mystery every day.”  Albert Einstein

“If you think of feelings you have when you are awed by something - for example, knowing that elements in your body trace to exploded stars - I call that a spiritual reaction, speaking of awe and majesty, where words fail you.”
Neil deGrasse Tyson

We start the year by looking back, in Awe, at what the year behind us has wrought, and looking ahead, with Awe, to what possibilities the year ahead of us holds.  Join us on Sundays at 10:00 a.m. for these conversations.

Upcoming 2021 Monthly Themes:
February - Bravery
March - Dignity
April - Freedom
May - Happiness
June - Justice

This Week’s Contemplative Meditation Theme

Until we can gather again here are some thoughts for your meditation time at home:

“Life is a great deal simpler than we commonly believe or allow it to be. It is not difficult to be enlightened; on the contrary, it takes a huge investiture of our mental and physical energy every day to hold back the Infinite. This is the main reason so much sleep is required at night; this is the primary cause of all disease and aging. Let us for even the briefest of instants relax our firm grip on our beliefs and judgements, the Infinite Light will burst into our souls, forever transforming us.”                                                                              Maharishi Sadasiva Isham from Enlightenment

The UUCL Book Club Committee meets at 5:30p.m. on the first Monday of each month.  New members are welcome.  Contact Peter Kandis for more information.

January 4th: "The Happiness Hypothesis: Finding Modern Truth in Ancient Wisdom," Jonathan Haidt

Jonathan Haidt skillfully combines two genres-philosophical wisdom and scientific research-delighting the reader with surprising insights. He explains, for example, why we have such difficulty controlling ourselves and sticking to our plans; why no achievement brings lasting happiness, yet a few changes in your life can have profound effects, and why even confirmed atheists experience spiritual elevation. In a stunning final chapter, Haidt addresses the grand question "How can I live a meaningful life?," offering an original answer that draws on the rich inspiration of both philosophy and science.
