Rev. Pat Jobe

"Understanding Can Be A False Idol"

Rev. Pat Jobe will be with us again virtually on Dec. 13. He has a number of friends who worship at the altar of understanding, especially at an intellectual level, at a level that offers to explain everything. But of course, that is not the whole story. Understanding as empathy, compassion, love, shared space, all of that can be a healing balm in a world gone crazy. He also wants us to know that he misses being with us.

We encourage each of you who join our service by  video to light your own candle.  Whether you are watching live or later we can find our spirits united by this simple action.  Until we are together again.

All Services begin at 10:00 a.m.

Our December theme will be Understanding:

“Data is not information, information is not knowledge, knowledge is not understanding, understanding is not wisdom.”     Clifford Stoll
“The noblest pleasure is the joy of understanding.” Leonardo da Vinci
“I call him religious who understands the suffering of others.” Mahatma Gandhi

Tune into us for a service in December to discover the many dimensions of understanding – ourselves, others, and the roller-coaster ride that was the year 2020.

December 20 - Rev. Dick Hood
"Darkness and Light - a Christmas Meditation"

Take some time to find meaning in this special season. More light is coming, but can we savor the darkness as well?

 December 27 - The UUCL RE/SJ Committee
"Understanding You.  Understanding Me."

Come and join us for a soulful reflection on a path towards understanding.

Happy New Year!
Our first 2021 theme will be "Awe"

January: Awe
“One cannot help but be in awe when he contemplates the mysteries of eternity, of life, of the marvelous structure of reality. It is enough if one tries merely to comprehend a little of this mystery every day.”  Albert Einstein

“If you think of feelings you have when you are awed by something - for example, knowing that elements in your body trace to exploded stars - I call that a spiritual reaction, speaking of awe and majesty, where words fail you.”
Neil deGrasse Tyson

We start the year by looking back, in Awe, at what the year behind us has wrought, and looking ahead, with Awe, to what possibilities the year ahead of us holds.  Join us on Sundays at 10:00 a.m. for these conversations.

Upcoming 2021 Monthly Themes:
February - Bravery
March - Dignity
April - Freedom
May - Happiness
