From Reverend Jim Morrison

8 May 2019

To the members and friends of The Unitarian Universalist Congregation of the Low Country

My health situation has not improved enough so that I can continue as the pastoral minister of UUCL. I deeply regret the necessity to terminate our relationship. A decision with which the Board agrees.

I joined the congregation because I believe wholeheartedly in its mission and ministry. Unfortunately, I cannot continue to be a part of the next exciting phase of this congregational life.

Indeed I am profoundly grateful for all the support and understanding I received as I traveled the road of my ill health. Keep supporting each other and others who rejoice in the inclusiveness of this congregation - which is so vital in our time.

There are too many to thank individually, but in total it commends the compassionate character of UUCL.

May you continue to shine the light of peace, hope, and love.

With every good wish,

Rev. Jim A. Morrison

Our May Theme is
Interdependence; mutual dependence; the dependence of one living thing upon another.  Our Seventh Principle may be our Unitarian Universalist way of coming to fully embrace something greater than ourselves. The interdependent web—expressed as the spirit of life, the oneness of all existence. The glory of being human is in being a part of something as magnificent as the totality of all existence.

Our June Theme Will Be:

“My religion is very simple. My religion is kindness.”   ―- Dalai Lama XIV
“Three things in human life are important: the first is to be kind; the second is to be kind; and the third is to be kind.” --― Henry James
In the month of June we will turn our focus to Kindness as a spiritual practice. Join us and our speakers to dig into this important topic.

Upcoming Monthly Themes:

July - Mindfulness
August - Openness
September - Questioning
October - Spiritual Growth
November - Understanding
December - Wisdom

5.26.29:  Rev. Pat Jobe returns to UUCL

The Totality Of Everything Loves Us

Save one starfish? Fight over which pie flavor is right? Rev. Pat Jobe returns to thread a very delicate needle. He wants us to feel good in the context of everything. It may be another tough row to hoe. Special music, a youth recognition, and a clip of Henry Fonda will make this a very special service. This is also a special no-applause service. Rather than applaud just let the spirit move in the quiet inner workings of the heart.

Coming in June:

June 2 - Rev. Charlie Tyler
June 9 - Rev. Pat Jobe

Our Common Identity &
The Art of Living in Attunement

Attunement initiates a process of remembering our divine identity. Living from this identity through our human form is the means by which we make the invisible become visible, making all things new in our world.

A Special Message from Peter Kandis

This is an invitation to be more intentional about our UUCL learning community. Many if not most ministers have spiritual directors that they confer with. My teachers have seen the benefit of this practice to the clergy and have been working for several years to make it available to laity.

I am looking for five or six people who will commit to meeting four or five times for a couple of hours. The dates and times will be decided by participants availability. I would like to meet sooner rather than later and to have time between sessions to reflect. This invitation is to help establish a spacious safe space for sharing. The origins of the practice we will use can be traced to a cloistered female world, where the influence of white male supremacy was not in play. Our time will be more like a retreat than a seminar. We will take the time to reflect on what others say before we speak. It will be an opportunity to share a concern that weighs on your mind.

I will be in the foyer after the service to answer questions and I will have a sign-up sheet.

If you are interested in participating please contact Peter Kandis at 803-422-3116,

UUCL is certified a by the UUA as a Welcoming Congregation

Thanks to a generous donation from the Titus Family and the Ron Titus Memorial Fund our congregation now has the equipment to 'Live Stream' our Sunday services!

You might ask, what exactly is 'Live Streaming'?

Streaming means listening to music or watching video in 'real time', instead of downloading a file to your computer and watching it later. With internet live events (like our Sunday Service), there is no file to download, just a continuous stream of data.

Last weekend we had the first test 'Live Stream' our service.  The service was available for viewing live at 10:00 a.m. last Sunday over our UUCL Facebook Page (Click this link if you have never visited our Facebook page.)  A small group of test subjects received a special invitation to view the test 'Live Stream' of the service.  The 'Live Stream' of the service was then saved to Facebook so it could be viewed by anyone at a later time or date.

The beauty of 'Live Streaming' is that the service is available to anyone over Facebook - not just Friends or Members of UUCL.  If you or a friend are unable to make it to a service, if you are traveling, or if you would like to share the service with someone it would be as simple as going to our UUCL Facebook Page to view the service in real time or to view it at a later date.

We are currently reviewing what we learned from this first test Live Streaming of our service.  We hope to have this service available for everyone on a regular basis by the end of the month.  Watch this space for more information as it becomes available.

Thank You
