Teacher Appreciation Week

“Every child deserves a champion – an adult who will never give up on them, who understands the power of connection and insists that they become the best that they can possibly be.” - Rita Pierson
Teacher and Student

Mrs. Virginia Shrewsberry was my 5th grade teacher at Kenwood Elementary School. I will never forget the way her eyeglass chain would touch my neck when she bent down to help me figure out my mistakes in Math. I also remember the way she would laugh so loudly when a character in our story would do something unpredictable or funny. Mrs. Shrewsberry was truly a great teacher. I am sure all of us could name that teacher who brought learning alive for each of us.

This week we celebrate Teacher Appreciation Week at The de Paul School. I can tell you that our teachers are the finest cadre of educators to be found in one school. They embody enthusiasm, integrity, confidence, flexibility, and patience. Each teacher is determined to make a difference in each child’s life. Many are in the building long before the start of the school day or long after all the students are gone – preparing lessons and assessing how they can help each child learn. Our teachers are the foundation of what makes The de Paul School work!

Mrs. French, Mrs. Kirchner, Ms. Mehlbauer, Mrs. Nuckols, Mrs. Bucayu-Lee, Mrs. Adams, Mrs. Russell, Mrs. Brezosky, Ms. Jett, Mr. Dzanko, Mrs. Boeschel, Mrs. Archibald, Mrs. Novak, Mrs. Whicker, Mrs. Smith, Ms. Finlay, Mrs. Gray, Mr. Sparks, Ms. Balthaser, Mrs. Hocklander, Ms. Shea, Mr. Wilson, Ms. Meranda, Mrs. Leamy, and Mr. Stathopoulos: THANK YOU FOR ALL YOU DO TO HELP THE DE PAUL SCHOOL'S STUDENTS EVERY DAY!

- Lisa Stepp, Principal

Mera Kathryn and Mitchell
Mera Kathryn Corlett ('02) and Mitchell Martin ('04) are both Artistic Associates with Commonwealth Theatre. These last few weeks, they have been working with Team 4 students and Ms. Meranda on building an original interpretation of Where the Wild Things Are to be performed as a short skit in May.

Mera Kathryn graduated from Hanover College cum laude with degrees in theatre and theology. Mitchell graduated from Northern Illinois University with a BFA from its prestigious Acting program.
