The FIRST Week Of School?

I was amazed this week to see just how quickly the students became engaged in their classrooms throughout the school.
  • Students in a circle stating what they expect from their Team 8 year
  • Students reading a short story about first day jitters
  • Students learning how to go through the lunch line for the first time
  • Students learning new names and faces
  • Students learning how to head their papers
  • Students reviewing place value
Be it learning new routes around the school, putting supply kits together, or establishing classroom procedures for the year – our faculty and students are already in step together, making the most of every classroom moment.

Teachers, students, and families – Thank you for all you have done to prepare for this week. And off we go...!

Eclipse Phases

The Great American Eclipse

On Monday, August 21, we will experience a once-in-a-lifetime astronomical event: The Great American Eclipse. This solar event will begin just before 1:00pm as a partial eclipse, and will reach maximum eclipse just before 2:30. The de Paul School has approved these procedures for this particular afternoon.
  • Each student and teacher will have a personal pair of ISO-certified eclipse glasses to wear on Monday. These are NOT the glasses which were recently recalled by Amazon
  • Students will be provided opportunities to view the eclipse in highly-controlled, teacher-led sessions
    • K-1 partnering with Team 8....1:15–1:25
    • Teams 2-3 partnering with Team 7....1:25–1:35
    • Teams 4-5....1:35–1:45
    • Team 6....1:45–1:55
    • ALL STUDENTS are outside at 2:25 for viewing the event at its maximum/peak eclipse
  • Between 12:30 and 3:00, unless participating in the brief controlled observations noted above, all students will remain indoors (i.e., no playground visits)
  • If you wish for your child to remain indoors all day without an observation opportunity, please call or email the school before 11:00am on Monday, August 21
  • We will have regular dismissal of students and bus riders on Monday

Dismissal Safety

Carpool 1
Carpool 2
Our dismissal procedure has quickly become the efficient routine that we see each year. Thank you for your role in this! Please note two important safety points:
  • We are observing distracted driving during this time, where phone calls or other conversations are pulling drivers’ attention away from traffic and the loading of students into cars. Please help us keep dismissal safe by avoiding distractions.
  • We know it is difficult to time your arrival precisely, but please avoid arriving before your scheduled dismissal time. Early arrivals lead to congestion on our small street.
