A Dream Comes True

Meeting a live panda bear was a dream come true for 10-year-old Keira!  In January, Kellsie's Hope Foundation sent Kiera and her family to the Atlanta Zoo to get up-close-and-personal with panda bears, Yang Yang and Lun Lun.  The smile on Keira's face says it all!!  Kellsie's Hope helped Kiera celebrate her love for animals by sending her family with her to the Georgia Aquarium to meet dolphins and to the Yellow River Game Ranch where Kiera was able to experience a squirrel eating right out of her hand!!  Keira, one of the bravest and strongest little girls we knew, started fighting the battle against Rhabdomyosarcoma, a soft tissue sarcoma found in children, in May, 2014.  Unfortunately, Keira lost her battle with cancer on May 3, 2017.

The memories that Kellsie's Hope Foundation helps provide these families are priceless and would not be possible without the help of our supporters.

Luke's Shopping Spree

When we met Luke, he was feeling down after waking up with yet another side effect from Childhood Cancer.  However, when Kellsie’s Hope presented him with his wish for a shopping spree, he instantly put a smile on his face and tucked away cancer for the day.  Luke, a 19-year-old young man who has been battling Osteosarcoma since June, 2014, was able to spend the day shopping with his mom and sisters.  Luke returned from his shopping trip with a whole new outfit and a whole new attitude. At the hotel, Luke had one more surprise waiting for him, a gaming chair. His day didn't stop there, though. After a day of shopping, a limousine picked up Luke and his family and took them to St. Charles where they had dinner at a Brazilian Grill, and finished their evening watching Power Rangers in reserved, reclining seats.

Thank you to Drury Inn – Brentwood, Eagle Limousine, Tucano’s Brazilian Grill and AMC Streets of St. Charles 8, who joined Kellsie’s Hope to give Luke a great day that let him leave cancer at home.

At Kellsie’s Hope, one of our goals is to provide long lasting memories for families that are battling childhood cancer. A big thank you to our supporters! Kellsie’s Hope would not be able to provide memories like this without you.

Just Keep Swimming

“Just Keep Swimming” and “Tougher than Cancer” are two mottos for 19 year-old Danielle, who is battling leukemia for the second time. Danielle was diagnosed with acute lymphocytic leukemia in December, 2014 and has been fighting cancer and in treatment for over two years. Her last chemotherapy was scheduled for March, 2017, but in February, 2017, Danielle relapsed with a second form of cancer, pre-AML. Now, her battle is extended much longer and she is currently going through a bone marrow transplant to fight the second cancer.

Before going into transplant, Danielle’s wish was to go on a weekend getaway with her family to Kansas City and have some fun, quality time with her 6 younger siblings since she misses them when she is in the hospital.

Kellsie’s Hope granted Danielle’s request by sending her family with her to Great Wolf Lodge, Legoland, and the Kansas City Sea Life Aquarium for the weekend. They were provided games, puzzles, legos, snacks, and pool toys to keep them busy. Danielle and her family had a great time!

Thank you to Great Wolf Lodge who joined Kellsie’s Hope in granting Danielle’s request.

As always, a big thanks to all of you who support Kellsie’s Hope Foundation. Your donations make memories and trips like these possible for children who are battling cancer.

2017 Nursing Scholarship Recipient

Emma Brooks, a senior at Collinsville High School, was this year’s recipient of the Kellsie’s Hope Foundation $500 Nursing Scholarship.  Emma states she has always dreamt of becoming a nurse and her passion for nursing grew after losing someone very close to her.  Emma shared she learned a hard life lesson that no one is promised a tomorrow. Emma is also very passionate about children. She currently works at a small private school, where she provides after care for children. She enjoys talking and playing with the kids, and if she is having a bad day the kids immediately cheer her up. Emma wants to work with children as a patient advocate to help them live a happy, healthy life.

Emma is a member of HOSA (Health Occupations Students of America), an officer of KAHOK Strong, the Captain of her studio dance team, and a volunteer at the Collinsville soup kitchen and food pantry. Emma is planning on attending Southwestern Illinois College this fall and will complete her nursing degree at Goldfarb.  Her goal is to become a pediatric nurse.

We wish Emma the best as she pursues her Nursing Career!
