Serenity's Peppa Party

Beautiful Serenity was fighting brain cancer when she was only 2 years old. Being in the hospital on your birthday is no fun, but that didn't keep Serenity from celebrating her birthday with Peppa the Pig. Kellsie's Hope Foundation granted Serenity's wish that included friends, family, presents, cake and, of course, Peppa the Pig. Helping Serenity enjoy her birthday was memorable.  Sadly, Serenity passed away just 4 days after her birthday party.  Please join us in keeping Serenity's family in your thoughts and prayers.

Thanks to everyone who supports Kellsie's Hope. Giving Serenity her birthday party would not have been possible without you.

Matthew's Wish

Matthew never envisioned that at just 19 years old his life's journey would include battling a brain tumor.  Kellsie's Hope Foundation was able to provide some positivity by granting his wish for a Space Gray iPhone 11 Pro Max with 256 GB of storage and a black Moshi iGlaze Slim Hard-shell case. He also received several gift cards for some shopping.  Matthew expressed his gratitude in the following note:

"Dear Kellsie's Hope, I am beyond words and truly blessed for everything Kellsie's Hope Foundation has done for me.  It is, without a doubt, such a gift for you to fulfill my wish of getting an iPhone 11 Pro Max, in addition to the plethora of gift cards which were such a great addition to the phone.  I am grateful for your generosity and support during this time.  Your foundation is such a special thing in our world today, and I am happy to be a little part of it. Know that I will treasure these gifts along with your thoughtfulness and care. Thank you for being a special part of my journey."

Many thanks to everyone who donates to Kellsie’s Hope Foundation. Your donations helped put a smile on Matthew's face.

Emily Hunt Awarded Scholarship

Kellsie’s Hope Foundation awards several yearly scholarships to pediatric oncology nurses who wish to pursue a higher level of education and continue working with pediatric oncology patients. One of this year’s recipients is Emily Hunt.  Emily has been a nurse at Children’s Hospital for over 3 years where she has been caring for and educating families of newly diagnosed children. Emily shared with Kellsie’s Hope that she feels the time she spends with families reviewing important information they need to safely care for their children at home makes a big impact.  The more comfortable the family is, the more comfortable the child will be going home. The time Emily spends preparing families varies from family to family, but she was most impressed with the family of a 2 year-old girl who was diagnosed with leukemia.  After numerous meetings, the family shared they could not read, so the written information they were provided would not be helpful.  Emily and staff prepared videos and messages so the family could learn.

Congratulations Emily and much luck as you pursue your education and your continued work educating families.

Scholarship Recipient Kara Kleete

Meet Kara, one of the 2019 Kellsie's Hope Foundation scholarship winners!  For 2 years, Kara has been a clinical Pediatric Hematology and Oncology Nurse at the Cardinal Kids Cancer Center at Mercy Children's Hospital.  Kara shared she has found "purpose and fulfillment" in this position and wants to excel in her current position. Kara brings personal experience with her when she is working with the kids as she was treated for a blood disorder in the Cardinal Kids Cancer Center when she was only 5 years old. She has found that her experience as a patient has helped her be an empathetic nurse and she encourages patients to express themselves and to overcome their obstacles. Kara is a Certified Pediatric Hematology and Oncology Nurse and plans to use her scholarship to attend the APHON  (Association of Pediatric Hematology and Oncology Nurses) Conference so she can teach other nurses how to administer chemotherapy safely to children.  Kara states, " I am inspired by them daily, and I pray that some of the support that I provide makes even a small bit of their journey easier."   Thank you Kara for your encouragement and support to kids with cancer and good luck at the conference!

Without donations to the Kellsie's Hope Foundation, scholarships could not be awarded to nurses like Kara who want to make a difference to a child battling cancer.  Thank you for your continued support.

Meet Mollie Ring - Scholarship Recipient

Kellsie's Hope Foundation is proud to introduce you to nursing scholarship recipient Mollie Ring. Mollie is a specialty nurse at Mercy Children's Cancer Center and Hematology Infusion Center and has been a nurse for 5 years.  She is also a member of the Adolescent and Young Adult Oncology Program.  Mollie shared in her essay that she has found her "niche in nursing" and finds it an extreme blessing to be a comforter, comedian, healer, friend, cheerleader and loving and compassionate caregiver to children with cancer and their families. She inspires them by having hope.  Mollie completed her Master's in Nursing Education in December, and educates pediatric nurses to become APHON (Association of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Nurses) or chemotherapy certified.  She plans to use her scholarship to attend the APHON conference and to become a certified APHON instructor. Mollie shared, "This scholarship will give me the ability to not only continue my goals of lifelong learning within the field of pediatric oncology but will help me educate other nurses, so they be equally knowledgeable and comfortable when providing care for pediatric oncology patients".  Thank you Mollie!

Many thanks for the donations to Kellsie's Hope Foundation so we can continue to help the nurses who comfort kids with cancer and their families.
