During the LA Yarn Crawl join Wollhaus at our social table and knit or crochet a few rows using the Brooklyn Tweed yarns. We will have Shelter, Loft, Quarry, and Arbor set up with needles and hooks.
This spring Wollhaus was chosen to be the only Southern California shop to offer Brooklyn Tweed yarns. In addition to a Trunk Show of the sophisticated knitwear, Wollhaus is having a Yarn Tasting during the LA Yarn Crawl so you can try the Brooklyn Tweed Yarns.
Brooklyn Tweed offered its first 100% American-made wool yarn and design collections in 2010. Shelter was the culmination of Jared Flood’s dream to create homegrown yarns that would preserve, support, and sustain the tradition of U.S. textile production. Shelter was later joined by Loft and Quarry to create a wide range of woolen-spun knitting options. The addition of Arbor in 2016 brought worsted-spun processing to the line.
Shelter, Loft, and Quarry are woolen-spun yarns, different from the more common worsted spun yarn. Woolen-spun fibers remain in a lofty jumble that traps air and offers remarkable warmth and lightness. The plies are gently twisted to preserve that buoyant quality, so woolen-spun yarn is a little more delicate than most commercial yarns.
Arbor is a worsted spun yarn and thanks to its worsted construction, produces a denser, sturdier fabric than the Brooklyn Tweed woolen-spun yarns. The fibers have been combed straight and carefully aligned before spinning, rather than jumbled to trap air. Garments knit from Arbor will weigh more and drape more heavily than those knit from Loft or Shelter.
