Chuck’s sets are known for their slick drum loops, spaced out voice-overs, and extraterrestrial soundscapes. Kicking off Pride month, here is a special soundtrack created for a green alien plushie known as Gorgonzola as we follow along on one of her gregarious adventures ;)

~ NEW ARRIVALS ~

~ Voguing and the House Ballroom Scene of New York,1989-92
Book & LP~

Photographer and documentarian Chantal Regnault left Paris and moved to NY in the 80s, finding herself completely immersed in Harlem's ballroom scene and documenting it at the height of its time. Full bleed intimate color photographs of iconic houses like LaBeija, Chanel and Dior and vogueing legends such as Willi Ninja, Paris Dupree, Peppa LaBeija, Carmen Xtravaganza among numerous others. Complete with images of ephemera, interviews and an introductory essay by Tim Lawrence ('Love Saves the Day", "Hold on to your Dreams").

Aside from being visually transported, the double vinyl collection sets the soundtrack for this era with selections that became anthems for the ballroom scene, such as the MFSB's 'Love Is The Message," Nitro Deluxe "This Brutal House," and Junior Vasquez "X."

~ Ratskin Records ~

We are happy to now offer selections from Oakland-based collective record label and archival imprint championing decolonial experimental music centered in the Bay Area and beyond. They collaborate with and are in community with LGBTQ+, Black, Indigenous, POC, and disabled artists who create work that is sonically and politically pushing boundaries toward liberation.

LPs

The 12 stories from Tyler Holmes' ‘Nightmare in Paradise’ reflect a personal healing journey that map out specific moments of struggle, pain, and holistic release through minimal electro-acoustic pop songs. Interladen with uplifting lush horns and ethereal vocals, echoing sentiments of early 00's electronic indie rock, exuding a warm glow that comforts from beginning to end.

Dark shimmery synth wavy electro dance pop with infectious melodies that explore narratives of womxn empowerment. Side A reclaims the roles of femme portrayals in mythic tales and fables by flipping stories of passive victimhood to liberated characters guided by their own agency, while Side B celebrates revolutionary womxn in hxstory.
Loving "King of Marseilles" rn.
Pulverizing goth emissions that bounce from industrial EDM, dark wave, noise and metal. Some nice surprises like the small hints of bluesy western guitar riffs (like in "Headbangers Balls" and "Heartworm") and a galloping dance organ track ("Ab Ra Ca Deb Ra") . An undulation of ominous morse code dispatches and gritty static frequencies with eerie vocal seductions that conjure spirits from the underworld.
Distorted industrial noise techno that sounds like a dusty radio transmitter emitting electrical discharges of static drenched insects buzzing against a lo-fi 4/4 thump. Queue up "Holographik" for a taste of some warbly ambient dubby vibrations in this desolate mad max desert wasteland.

CDs

Debut full length by black femme multi-disciplinary artist/curator Golden Champagne Flavored Sweatshirt explores themes of duality and emotional contrast through sound; moving lithely from peaceful soundscapes to aggressive noise explosions as a reflection of artistic expression during a time of upheaval against the backdrop of capitalism. "Pyroclasmic Flows"  shines with glittery euphoria, "Whicket" weaves odd vocal samples with early industrial influences.

44 one-minute bursts of polyphonic fantasy synth sci fi lullabies drawing paralells to the Resident's 1980's Commercial album, each one containing its own fully-formed digi wonderworld filled with candy blip avatars navigating their way through surreal shifting landscapes. Press shuffle or choose your own adventure.
Japanese noise legend Kazyuki Kishino aka KK Null mixes two live performances that create an ever expanding cacophony of post apocalyptic distopian speedcore blasts and piercing high pitched frequencies that collide head on with seismic musique concrete experimentations and yet you find yourself kind of dancing only to realize beneath all the chaos are hidden layers of breaks and glitch. Delightfully discombobulating.
