Margarita in Retrograde : Cocktails for Every Sign -
Vanessa Li & Bowen Goh

Vanessa Li and Bowen Goh, owners of Bushwick's beloved Mood Ring, have come out with a cocktail book! Expanding on the astrology theme of the bar, each sign not only has four recipes apiece, but also playlists, ideal date, and nightlife style, all hilariously personal reflections on their views of the Zodiac. Meant to demystify the process, they include basic tools and utilize more affordable liquors to make creating a home bar more accessible.
Cherub Dream Records

Happy to now offer a selection from SF's Cherub Dream including releases from The Balmer Series, Buddy Junior, Goth Lipstick, Lofter, Jet Alone, Parallel and Jules FKA Local Spells. Cherub Dream is a queer + poc run tape label and printing project based in San Francisco and begun in 2020. An anti genre-based label, they've put out a wide range of music from industrial to ambient, glitch-pop to shoegaze, but always rooted in a punk/diy ethos.

Shop picks - the melodic goth/wave of Parallel, particularly the half-tempo back and forth of "Static Side" and the detuned late-80s television soundtrack of The Balmer Series "Sublimatum."
Techno Rebels: The Renegades of Electronic Funk (Painted Turtle) - Dan Sicko

An examination of Detroit's underground 80s party scene that outlines the origins of what we come to know as today's Detroit Techno. Featuring seminal histories beginning with DJs and producers like Electrifyng Mojo, Ken Collier, The Wizard and Richard Davis and their trajectories leading to the "Belleville Three" (Juan Atkins, Derrick May, Kevin Saunderson), and into the mid-90s with labels like UR, Planet E, and Plus 8. A great addition for those still in the afterglow/haze of Movement and for all our club, dance and techno enthusiasts and archivists looking for the deeper dive into the history of Detroit Techno.

Goodnight Shiva - Zekarias Thompson

Oakland-based artist and musician Zekarias Thompson's debut release on Atlantic Rhythms is an atmospheric meditation through echoed saxophone recordings, spoken word and images that speak on isolation, the body and blackness. Meant to be listened in its entirety to understand the breadth and weight that Zekarias carries through complex, fine-tuned arrangements that really float between realms and show wonderful restraint at the right moments. In addition to the cassette is a limited edition hand-bound book created in conjunction with the album. Includes lyrics, reflections and original art by Zekarias & Leonora Zoninsein.

Shop pick: "whats left of the rust" I am particularly struck by this one and finding the spoken lines "you will be exalted, what will they say to me" echoing long after the album ends.

Highly recommend, only 1 copy of each available.
The Future Light Cone - Agnes Martian

Operating out of Oakland / NY / Iceland is a cosmic psych outfit known as Agnes Martian. A collaborative project between Zekarias Thompson (sax & guitar), Benjamin Rodgers (bass, guitar, synths, percussion), Pétur Eggerts (drums) and gin hart (words & theremin) that came into being through weekly deep listening gatherings and collective explorations in sound. "The Future Light Cone" is an engulfing orb of kosmiche fuzzed out drones created for an imaginary planetarium. Hints of Neu! and Cluster can be felt, but Agnes Martian create their own universe. Alternating between meditative and ecsatic, gin hart's spoken word acts as a grounding guide and counterpoint to Zekarias'  delirious sax.
In Sheeps Clothing Hi-Fi

LA’s In Sheep’s Clothing Hifi has sent three special releases our way that we’re very happy to share! Their premier release “Live at Sound City” showcases the collaboration of Pino Palladino, Blake Mills, and Sam Gendel doing more stripped-back takes of tracks from Mills & Palladino’s “Notes With Attachments," honing in on the sax/guitar/bass interplay. Baba Stiltz' "In LA" is an unexpected but not unwelcome departure for the Swedish producer, a rather personal exploration of solo acoustic guitar. Flo Dill and Bruno collect 9 leftfield pop songs on “Perfect Location,”  shining a light on that fertile early 80's era where many artists eschewed the lure of major label success in favor of self-released artistic visions
(Perfect Location available in-store only).
OJO (Lighthaus) 2 hour set playing all new original music now in the archives for your listening pleasure :)

For OPAF, Cone Shape Top will revisit Dream Radio, a project initially presented as bodyworkbodywork at OPAF 2019 in San Pedro. Dream Radio showcased the work of over 20 international artists working in a wide variety of sound in a site-specific location. For 2022 we plan to expand on this vision, presenting another immersive and surreal listening experience in San Pedro, (9/17-9/18).

We are seeking submissions of recorded sound (max length 5 minutes) to play as part of this program. Open to all sonic transmissions (music, sound art, spoken word, field recordings, demos, interviews, and anything else that you can think of). All submissions will be included, please share!

Submission Deadline : Aug 1, 2022
